Here the "Feds" would nick you in a heartbeat for wheels protruding outside the bodywork. Not only that but for something like that they would then go over the entire car with a fine tooth comb. Would get real expensive real quick and you end up with an unroadworthy sticker and needing a cab ride home.

Re the Moloo R8 I just happened to find an article posted today of the day back in 2006 (so an early R8) when Mark Skaife, at the time a Holden race driver took the world record for a production utility vehicle. The Dodge Ram SRT-10, used its 8.3-litre V10 to record a top speed of 248.783km/h in 2004. Its a usual 2 way run averaged.
The R8 set the new record at 271.44. The reason for the article was they just found the actual record breaking ute in an outback barn, unseen since the record nearly 20 years ago after which it was vought by a local collector.. The Maloo was still in the same condition it finished the run in 2006, plus a bit of dust.... with Skaife’s signature on the steering wheel and even the promotional placard used in photographs at the time still stored in the tray. https://torquecafe.com/worlds-fastest-ute-found/ I was out at a Historic race meet yesterday and spotted a few other things as well. There were a few car clubs doing their thing. The blue Ford Landau Coupe was so perfectly preserved 70's... complete with white vinyl roof. Then there is the equally perfectly preserved Toyota Crown 2600, and a Bolwell Nogari Mk X parked up next to the Lotus Esprit Last edited by E.B; Yesterday at 05:43. |

I like the unpretentious Ford Pilot V8. Just sitting there looking cool next to the muscle.

Thanks for the pics and the story about the Moloo, E.B. I must admit that I wasn't that much impressed by the first record settled at 248 but 271 kph is really fast for a nearly stock ute.
Thanks mg for the Pilot precision I was wondering what it could be! The Crown will please someone on here (Mike) and I think the red thing could be a Mach One… |

Indeed, Gérard, although mine was a slightly upgraded version, the Royale. However, I think that the colour is actually the same as that of my first Crown which was an estate version of '76 vintage which had over 200,000 miles in the clock when my ex-wife disposed of it. |

There were more Mustangs of all years there as well!
Plus old Skylines, Bentleys new and old and a couple of odds and sods including an MGBGT that had done a number of VERY long trips. |

The batch of jap' cars shows the inspiration of some designers in the early sixties. This kind of square body and high top was a la mode all over the world, the Corvair, NSU's, Giulia, the Stud' Lark and a pair of twins we tend to forget, the Fiat's 1300/1500. Having a well known and assumed bad taste, I find that the best representations of this era could be the Corvair and the Panhard 24 (preferably the BT).

I used to be quite fond of the Panhard 24 back in the day. I even had a Dinky toy version which had door windows which could go up and down. For about 5 minutes IIRC.

I was not experienced enough to appreciate the Panhard range, it came lately, my best friend being a collector (scale one models…). If one day you have the opportunity to fully detail a Dynamic, you'll see what kitch design means! And mechanical elegance too, but it was a Panhard & Levassor then.

Well that will teach me to look at the blown up picture rather than the standard sized one!
Further observation does show it to be smaller than the Ford Pilot. The Prefect was the up market version of the Anglia/Popular 1172cc sidevalve. Still a cool car. I think, Mr Brand? |

Winter coming I just spotted two cabrios this morning, an Alfa Romeo Spider 2600 better than new and a MG Cyberster. Good looking for a Chinese car. 500 hp, 68 k €. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrGhxkFvE38
