Better than the first version of the 911 which could well have been the worst GT ever… IMO! As to the Bonneville jewel, thanks, I love the salt fever. If you have time in your hands, just type Les Triplettes de Bonneville and you'll see how some Frogies have a simple Mobylette going fast. All started in 2008, they went to the US carrying the first prototype in bits in a suitcase!

Another great selection, Bob. It will appeal to another northerner on here, I'm sure.
I always liked the Giulia GT but never keen on the boxier Ti shape. |

The first motor race I ever saw was held over public roads on the Isle of Man in 1951. The winner was CGH (Gerry) Dunham, diving a 2.5 litre Alvis. His son then raced it at VSCC events, where I was able to capture these images, probably sometime in the late eighties early nineties. When we moved to Luton in 1968 I found that Dunham had a cars sale room in the town, and displayed the Alvis in the window. Small world.

I often wondered how much difference a driver could make to a car's performance. In 2006 I found out!
The occasion was the 4oth Anniversary of the HSCC's Griffith Formula, a race for 1950's Sports Cars held at Silverstone - in pouring rain. The field consisted of some impressive motor cars, D-Type Jaguar, Maserati, Lister Jag. etc. Barrie Williams was entered in an XK120, and simply outdrove all of the more exotic machinery. Lap after lap he would emerge onto the Club Straight in a perfectly controlled power slide. One of the best motor races I have ever see. Quite unforgettable. See for yourself.Enjoy. |

A lovely bunch of pictures to look at first thing in the morning, even including good old Whizzo - what a character. At least I'm starting the day with a smile, I wonder how long that will last...

Spotted my old Capri in 736. That may have been qualifying for the Masters raceday on the GP Circuit complete with Bridge Corner. I recall having a race long dice with Alan Daffyn's blue Capri. On more than one occaision we rubbed bumpers but no harm done. He had triple webers so could get out of corners quicker than me but mine had longer legs so we'd swap around Luffield only for me to re pass going into Maggots/Becketts. Happy days. Oh and I beat him.

Somewhat belated thanks for the Alfas in #754 - not been on here much as been spending long hours beside milady's hospital bed, but she's home now so gradually catching up with things!

Love the pictures in 758. Can name all the cars and drivers (especially the F5000s for some reason!!) including my great friend the late Keith Norris in the red #28 Chevron Atlantic.
