Already been answered a few posts ago - Toyota has specifically said that it wants to be running at least 4 cars in the first year. To do that, it'll need another team on board.

Thanks, I didn't see that post. So, if no team puts their hand up someone is going to get a shoulder tap then. I suppose there will be a bag on money somewhere.

So what team wouldn’t be excited to get 2x chassis for free. Perhaps the cost in return is a seat allocated to a Toyota-preferred pilot… and if paid for by the manufacturer. May be another large saving. |

Someone has voted for DJR as the second team. Given that they are the Ford homologation team and now also building and maintaining the Ford donks, very unlikely.

A cynic might argue that DJR has done a poor job of running the homologation process, and as control engine supplier that a fuss free change in brand, from becoming a manufacturer to becoming a tuner, could be a welcome relief…

Ford could throw big bucks at T8 to take over as the homologation team and DJR fill the void left by T8.

In AA this week… they make a big song & dance about a matrix spreadsheet being used to select the second Toyota team for 2026
The article casts doubt on the possibility Team18 will be that squad, with BJR apparently the attractive option. |

The old matrix spreadsheet trick, bit like the cone of silence!
The first selected Toyota team, need to get their ducks in a row after the Gold Coast debacle. |

Unless of course the sale of the #6 Monster Energy chassis to be delivered after the 2025 season is to clear house before the Toyotas show up.
The thing to note with the BJR possibility is they took delivery of a couple of Walkinshaw cars and used their chassis tech for a couple of seasons… |

That the team is slimmed to 2 cars as per Mr Nettlefold’s much rumoured and often repeated desires. So BJR becomes a 2 car dealer supported (WAU as factory supported) with the major sponsors on the pink car, and the red (at the moment) to make that happen. Some paperwork (and probably big cheques) would need to wobble around, and people moving as well… and the other 2 RECs become available and snapped up by one of the mystery people and organisations that keep popping up as wanting to be owners (Mr Vailo, Captain Boost amd more…) It may an interesting way to tie everyone in, and perhaps help B2B relationships between SCT and all those cars being moved from wharves to franchised dealerships… Business models are ultimately revolutions. They always move, evolving or devolving, living thru operational or product life cycles as customers and supporters come and go. A revived BJR with a 2 car focus may be able to emulate or exceed the performance of Tickford rearranging their customer programs this year. |

Erebus has a number of um.. possible impediments.. that a super conservative operation like Toyota might not be so excited about. The proof in the pudding might be after what Mr Pye keeps referring to on Apex Hunters as a ‘mass exodus’ of Erebus crew at season’s end… and whether team and driver performance remains intact.. |

My pick is PremiAir Nulon Racing.
Brad answered a question in his recent you tube video about becoming a 2 car team, and ruled it out. Erebus now seem to be a bit unpredictable & T18 simply are not up there. Toyota would be able to involve Ludo, and Nulon is a Toyota colour. James and Richie are a pretty decent line up too. |

PremiAir and Ludo could be an attractive package for Toyota.
Some other teams seem to have more dramas than Home and Away. |

Lots of ifs, buts and maybes. Truth be known, most teams have probably previously had some sought of association with WAU, either directly as a supplier or via staff that have worked for both. PremiAir has had its fare share of dramas, the owner has been trigger happy in the past.

What do you mean chassis? It's just a kit of composite panels they can bolt on to the chassis they already have, no?
Quote:
The bodykits are just bolted on as you know, there is not even any welding needed to convert a chassis from one make to another, unlike with the COTFs. It'll only be a few dollars, having 8 cars (2 WAU, 4 BJR and 2 Premiair) will help Toyota in political matters. Last edited by V8 Fireworks; Today at 14:42. |

If all chassis were created equal, why would teams take a completely built up Gen3 chassis from 888, and now seemingly from Erebus rather than control their own fabrication processes?
Actually, thinking about it some more, could WAU be the customer team taking on Erebus-produced chassis? Back in the halcyon days of Holden Motorsport, there was a golden book (either figuratively or an actual book) where an aligned team could choose engines, chassis and everywhere in between with an accompanying (rumoured to be eye watering) price tag attached. In order to operate as a main team and a pukka satellite, it would make some sense to continue on a similar journey, with the chassis supplied ex-GR/TRD supported WAU so the development path continues similar trajectories as the HRT vs Kmart vs PWR programs managed. Equally, a Gen3 chassis built to begin the ‘23 season will be 3 racing seasons old by the beginning of the new era in 2026. From watching some of the videos BJR have been sharing, some aspects of the chassis have had some substantial wear and tear (and cracking..) such that a new chassis could possibly positively impact performance. And let’s not even get started on Ford dashboards… |
