Oh, it has started and is now fully embedded and "legitimised" by the 2016-20 White House administration when the introduced what they called "alternative facts".

Politicians of all colours in many countries now make pronouncements that, usually about their political opponents, that in reality have no basis in truth. Some is by design and others just on the spur of the moment.
