Matech Ford LMGT in 2011

The Ford GT didn't get lost racing in Le Mans in 2011, Matech just announced that they will build a limited series of up to 10 Matech Ford LMGT race cars under the new ACO LMGT Endurance Category regulations and eligible to compete in Le Mans Series, American Le Mans Series and Asia Le Mans Series in addition to the 24 hours of Le Mans from 2011...

Superb news. A GT2 Ford GT2 at the Sarthe with a strong team and drivers going up against Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette and BMW? Absolutely terrific. Bet it will sound good as well

This says a lot about manufactuers needs to sell a decent number of customer cars to rake back development costs, something GT1 limits.

Unlike the Nissan GTR the Ford GT looks quite simple to adapt to GTE regs.

In both GT1 and GT2..I don't know if they can handle all the multitasking.

I have a vague memory of Matech prepared Mustangs, at the first GT3 and 4 event. Probably GT3, but GT4 'stangs should be possible...

I am happy they are going to build a car to this spec, even if it is only because they have a ton of chassis lying around and no other way to generate income from them, with GT1 only letting you run 4 cars and GT3 Fords not exactly flying off the shelves these days...

It would be nice to see one or two of their GT2 cars show up in ALMS!

That article mentioned that one of the reasons for undertaking this project is because they already have interested parties contacting them for 4 cars. Now I wasn't sure if that meant 4 cars have been sold, or just interest is there.

Also, what does Kevin Doran think about Matech cars showing up in ALMS?

Since Mr. Doran doesn't race a car in ALMS and so far has only one taker, I wouldn't worry about what he thinks. I was wondering, is taking on a Matech GT-40 for ALMS a project someone like Tracy Krohn could or would take on? He did run the 2 Lambos a few years back. Yeah, they didn't have much luck but he did have some decent drivers. He could run two GT-40s and at least have one top flight driver line-up. I'm glad there seems to be some impetus for this to happen

That would IMHO suck for Kevin/Robertson Racing: They have got quite the restrictor breaks right now, if the Matech cars are substantially faster than theirs, they might get those revoked.

Theoretically since it's a different car that shouldn't happen...theoretically.

Bartek was talking about "pré-commandes" in French - and that means translated into English: advance orders or reservations...

Wasn't it actually Dick Barbour who ran the two Murcielagos in the ALMS?

Krohn-Barbour was the entrant, so yeah, Dick ran them but Tracy paid for them.

With respect to Kevin Doran, as others have pointed out he's not done a brisk business with only 3 chassis sold (2 Robertson, 1 Black Swan) and no recent purchases. Interestingly ACS Express/Mike Davis, who bought the ex-Pappas car, are thought to be doing a little re-engineering of it themselves. Perhaps it is they rather than Doran who will feel miffed with a likely better version of the car on the way!

Oh well, have they entered it? No. Have they rehomologated it? No. Is the Doran in actual possesion of a full ACO homologation, or is it only for the ALMS? Maybe The Robertsons will end up in the Matech camp?

What's the story with the ACS guys? I noticed they only ran one WC race this year with the Stangs. I hope that Ford GT gets dusted off and finds its way into ALMS in 11'. Time will tell I guess. . .

Hmm, how about the fact that GT-1 was nixed from Le Mans/LMS since that article/statement was released.
