Great win for Hornish
Sam the Man took a fantasic win today, totally untouchable. He still thinks he is in with a shout of the championship...after a drive like that, you gotta belive he is serious. Congrats to Sam

He has moved up to fifth place, 77 points behind the leader, Kanaan. With 200 points up for grabs, he could do it, but being realistic the guys ahead of him would have to all have poor results in the next four races. Still, anything can happen!

I said after Michigan that he was still in with a chance and I think he still is. It's a long shot, but for sure if he pulls it off it'll be the most astonishing result for years and he'll rightly be considered the best oval racer of all time....In my opinion, anyway.

Funny how people seem to be backing Hornish enthusiastically to win his third successive title wheras a certain Schumachers continued run of three F1 titles had most of us willing his engine to grenade every race...or is that just me?!

I tell anybody who will listen, Sam Hornish is flat out the best OW driver in North America. He showed it again against a deep feild.
This one looked like Rick "oval Meister" Mears. Wow! Gotta give Chevrolet credit for doing what it takes to win. Makes one proud to be American - up there with Panoz victories over Audi or BMW, or Armstrong in the tour de France. To beat the best, you must compete against the best. Dixon showed fine form and showed he is a talent. He also dopped a rather incidiary anti-CART line Quote:

Wasn't he supposed to be no match for top drivers, and very poor on ovals? I think people have to look again at his talent. The effort and focus seem to be there now. He deserves afull-time ride IMO. Although a dominating performance from Hornish, it was a good clean race, and what looked on the TV to be a healthy crowd. Good Show! Now to watch the ALMS Mosport tape! ... busy busy busy. |

At least, with a good "Chevy" engine the whole season would have been diofferent, fastest lap was marked by Sarah Fisher as well; perspectives are good for next season, and Sam can get some more satisfaction from the late races.

Yeah, that British made Chevy engine is pretty good. Sam Hornish the best driver in North American OW racing? That would be a rather long argument with no real solution. He is very very good. Best oval racer ever? Again, a long argument. My vote is still Rick Mears. What is it about great oval racers and Pennzoil sponsorship?

yep was a great drive by sam , in fact i didnt think much of the event , found it kinda dull , but hey we cant have a BALLTEARER every time now can we
but a simply awesome effort and if he pulls it off it will be amazing. also a fairly good drive by Robbie Buhl but some bad performances by Fisher and Lazier who must surely have some other terrible problems. |

oh well there you go then , i didnt know Sarah got the fastest lap , just proves there was other factors involved I guess.
hopefully now teams know what to expect with the new Chevy the next one will be awesome. |

As much as i disagree with allowing Chevy the engine change, it was an impressive drive by Hornish. It was really a Chevy parade either, so the new engine isn't really dominent

Apart form Hornish, and perhaps Rice and Meira, the Chevrolet teams are the weakest ones, so you wouldn't expect them to dominate, especially without much practice of the car.
Still, not the greatest race reallly, but it does set the conclusion of the championship up really well. Sam could win the title, but otherwise its between the incoming CART stars. Should be a great final 4 races though, which is what counts. |

In any case all the Chevy teams have significantly improved (Buhl 6th in quals: never happended).
Maybe this allowance is not that fair, but the last four races will be among 16 drivers , instead of 7-8, c'est-*-dire way better! |

Now that the Chevy engine is competitive and winning races, can we expect Honda and Toyota to be given a break and allowed to catch up???

I thought Ford stood for Found On Road Dead.
Seeing as we haven't seen Hornish in top level road course it's pretty hard to classify him as the best. Few here would argue that a 50 year old driving a Nascar would be the best driver in the country. Driving an oval with little speed difference between corners and straights tests the driver in only one respect. I'm not trying to critisize the IRL, it's gotten much better in this respect, but I doubt anyone here would argue Al Jr. still has it when he's required to turn left too. |
