Banquet 400

On Sunday, the “Chase for the Championship” moves to Kansas Speedway for the Banquet 400. It’s back to work for those who survived last week’s Talladega’s crash-filled race. Mark Martin got a serious blow for his title aspiration after getting knocked out in last week’s race. Tony Stewart still leads the drivers’ standings while Ryan Newman is four points behind in second place. Rusty Wallace, Jimmie Johnson and Greg Bifle complete the top five.

This should prove to be an intresting race. Kurt Busch is pretty well down and out of the championship chase. Mark Martin also has a lot of work to do, but it looks like he will get another shot next year. Personally I will be cheering for Rusty to win the title at season end as it would be a great way for him to retire and he drives a Dodge. But Stewart is going to be hard to beat.

Just got back from the race. What a dominating performance by Mark Martin. He seemed to have the field covered by midpoint in the race. Roush cars finish second (Biffle) and third (Edwards).

Big news this weekend. Apparently, some teams called a meeting with Brian France and the teams complained about how multi-car teams are hurting the sport. Curiously enough, Jack Roush was not invited to the meeting, so it had to be directed at his five car team, all of which are in the chase for the championship. The word is that NASCAR will limit the size of multi-car teams in the future, probably 3 cars per team, though it is not official yet.

Two races in a row without a "young gun" win. Hopefully this will be the start of a trend.
