Official: 2007 Team Renault
Renault has revealed it's lineup for 2007.
Manager: F.Briatore Technical Director: Bob Bell Chief Engineer: Pat Symond Engine Boss: Rob White Seems like a pretty solid and proven team structure, which would be essential as Renault makes a transistion in tyres and engines regulations, as well as drivers. More interesting to Renault fans would be the confirmed driver line-up for 2007. Race Driver: G.Fisichella and H. Kovalainen Test Driver: N. Piquet Jr and R. Zonta Not exactly the strongest outright in 2007, but they have in them two potential stars. Zonta would give some good insight with how to work with BS tyres. |

The most important part of that announcement is that Briatore is staying for another couple of years, so the management structure stays the same.
Kovalainen may not be at Alonso's level now, but just wait and see! |

Heikki will be a great driver and be interesting to see him progress, Piquet will learn but not sure *how* much he'll bring to the team, but then Zonta and Fisi are experienced, and Heikki's been around long enough....

Well, they had better win the WDC this year then. I don't see them doing it next year...

Oh dear. I hope Heikki is as good as some of you are saying otherwise Renault are going to struggle all year long.

I guess this means Raikkonen to Ferrari? Good choices by Renault

I am glad to see Heikki in the lineup. He is a fantastic driver, a good guy to interview and another flying Finn on the grid.
Although not related to F1 driving, I can't get it out of my head when they were teaching Heikki how to shift and operate the WRC car on the starting line when he beat Sebastian Loeb in the Race of Champions. That was too cool. |

I wonder how many other Team Manager's would have got such a straight-forward contract renewal having let the current world champion slip through his fiingers and negotiate a contract with a rival team without any knowledge of the deal (by self-admission) and when he was the flippin driver's manager.
Ah well, I suspect Flav signed himself. |

I heard it on the grapevine that Fisi is on a performance based contract. Apparantly, if he doesn't get a certain amount of points in the first half of the year, then his race seat goes to Piquet.

Shouldnt it go to Zonta?
By all accounts it sounds like he'll get the senior test role ahead of Piquet. |

Haha, Piquet´ll bring to the team Eur 25 millions..... due to Telefonica´s business in Brazil..... Money rules the F1.... |

Well sadly thats the best lineup Renault could come up with and it was expected. Mind you Im a huge Heikke fan and im delighted for him but having a rookie alongside a dead beat driver is really not the ideal situation. It's amazing how things have panned out and there was virtually no top driver grasping the Renault drive....the ideal lineup wouldve been a consistant performer alongside Kovalainen.... anyway best of luck to Heikke.....im a fan and i hope he can make the jump upto the next step!!

It's (almost) official now then. Kimi to Ferrari, MS to retire. Renault to suck next year.

It's got to be a holding situation for a year or two, whilst Flavio and Renault decide their respective futures.
Should Renault continue to fully back the F1 team then Heikki is there for the long haul and will end up being the new number one as long as he performs. I suspect Fizzi will make way for another more fancied guy for 2008. Zonta is an excellent choice - a driver quite capable of stepping into the supersub role again and Piquet as has been said is arguably there for commercial reasons. After what Pat Symonds was wearing at the Goodwood Revival Meet last Saturday, I'm surprised the team hasn't been renamed Team Showwaddywaddy..............
Didn't HK beat MS as well as Loeb in the Race of Champions.....? |

Its good to see that the technical side of team is staying put....i mean at the end of the day they are the most important....Renault could so easily have had a situation like when Schumacher left....taking half the engineers with him...

Maybe at a later date...?! Not surprised they kept Fisi, but I would rather have seen him go.

Well, I suspect that Renault signed Fisichella quickly (perhaps in a bit of a panic) once it was revealed that Fernando was departing at the end of the season, in order to ensure some sort of continuity and experience continues at the team. Michael Schumacher not making up his mind about what he wants to do in 2007 has thrown out not only Ferrari but Renault and McLaren, and I suspect that Renault simply has grown tired waiting for Michael and therefore Kimi to make up their minds. In 2007, my conspiracy theory is that Fisichella is there at Renault to take the fall if things go wrong, but Heikki will be promoted when things go right.
