GEM+2.4.64 and 1969 F1 mod for GPL released

Paul Thurston's Gem+ 2.4.64 is released.

This is essential for running the 1969mod Part2 and for future mods in development.

You can d/l Gem+ 2.4.64 here

1969gpl.speedgeezers.com/files/gem/GPLS_0422.exe

After a short delay the 1969MOD Part2 for GPL is here.

Right now there is just the STD mod d/l available but I will be posting a LITE version and other frame rate enhancements over the next few days.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those that have helped to develop 69mod Part1 and now 69mod Part2 but especially to :-

Charles Mark ( CJM ) for his unique gpl car building skills and for the countless hours he has devoted to this project.

Richard Cooke for the fantastic job he has done developing the 69mod physics.

Paul Thurston for making his GEM+ interface compatible with 69mod and continuously developing it with an increasing amount of features and enhancements to suit our needs.

Gene Fryman ( Codehound ) for opening the way for winged/downforce physics in GPL

Nigel Patinson whose genius gave us the "integrated exe" which we now use as our patching medium for 69mod and mods in development.

1969mod part2 has continued to bring you many new features not seen in the part1 release, here are some of those new features,

1/wings are adjusted "in game"

2/wing settings are stored as part of your setup

3/fuel readout now shows correct amount of laps

4/ai fuel allowance is now correct without changing track ini

5/ai performance matched to player car without changing track ini

6/new updated Hwng carset representing the early part of 1969

7/new Lwng carset including BRM p139 representing the later part of the 1969 season,

8/option for Hwng Brabham to have " ghost wing " when viewed from inside car only ( this helps to see the pitboard )

9/new wheels and tyres for all cars with a more authentic shape ( bigger bulge )

10/new 2D helmet options for both carsets

11/new driver faces and driver helmets in various styles and designs for ai and online cars eg. open face/goggles, visor helmet, full face helmet. The ai helmets are authentic designs, whilst the online helmets add some variation.

12/new car engine sounds for all cars.

13/new differential ramp angle selection in carsetup options

Some of you will have already be using the 69mod part1, to make sure you get a correct installation I would advise you to :-
1/Remove 69Hwng carset from gpl/cars folder
2/Remove gpl69w.exe from gpl folder ( in theory this is not really necessary but may be a good idea to ensure a good patch of the new physics. )

To use the 1969mod part2 you will first have to update your Gem+ installation. This is essential as older versions will not work with 69mod's new physics.
You can find Paul Thurston's Gem+ 2.4.64 here
http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=253395

Installing 69mod part2:-

Download the Part 2 installer here
http://1969gpl.speedgeezers.com/
Many thanks to Paul Jackson and SPEEDGEEZERS for hosting our files and web site
Also to BCsims who will mirror the main d/l

Run the Part 2 installer.
NOTE !
Default installation Path is set to C:\SIERRA\gpl , if your path to your gpl install is different to this, change the path when prompted by the installer.

Create a player in GPL ( If you have installed part 1 of this mod you can use your existing player ), exit GPL

Start gem+,
Click CARSETS button and make 1969 Grand Prix ACTIVE, then make sure your 69mod player is using 1969 Grand Prix.
Hit the GPL green Button.

This version has carset 69Hwng( high winged early season carset ) and carset 69Lwng( low winged later season carset )
To change carsets, use the carset drop down menu in Gem+

Wings are now adjusted inside GPL by selecting " carsetup " and then going to the drivetrain screen.

With set at "no wing" the wing is demounted.
At 4 degrees the wing is in neutral lift, and at 15 degrees the wing stalls.
So you need 14 to 15 maybe at Monaco but much less at Kyalami (6 to 8)or Monza(5 to 6).
This is because the wings also give drag as the angle is increased.
You can set front and rear different if you feel its an advantage.

The part 1 physics had a bug which allowed downforce from the front wings to bleed onto the rear wing, this has now been fixed for part2 so wing settings will differ. A good starting point with part2 physics is to set front and rear wing angles the same.

The Cars :-

At the moment its a tough choice between the MatraMS80 and Lotus49b
for top car. The MclarenM7 and BrabhamBT26 are very close behind
the top two, mostly because they are all using the Cosworth DFV.

MatraMS80 feels easier to drive than the Lotus49b, both have
inherent understeer which has to be dealt with by using power
oversteer.
The BrabhamBT26 is a go-kart, it has the most front end grip of the
lot in my opinion but suffers from extra drag.
MclarenM7 with its narrow track can be a nice car with the right
setup and not that far behind the top cars.
Ferrari312 is the mid fielder, it feels fast and comfortable but
cant match the DFV's for pace.
BRM P126 ( and P139 in Low wing carset ) comes next, again easy car
to drive and feels like it has the power but its a bit overweight
for the job.
The slowest car in the carset should be the Lotus63, hailed as a
breakthrough in technology but it just did not deliver the goods.
It's 4WD system made the car very overweight and even in the wet the
car was slower than its 49b stable mate. This is the car for
the "aliens"

1969mod was made easier by the breakthroughs and tools made by the 65mod team. Our cars are based on works already done by the GPLEA.

Thanks to Race Sim Central for their services to the GPL community.

A big thanks to Dave Kaemmer and Papyrus for our beloved GPL.
