The GREATEST LAP OF MODERN TIMES??? TGF's qualifying lap to put him second on the grid was nothing short of brilliant. Hwereas the rest of the field were struggling to put in times within 3secs of their own qualifying time, Schumi does THAT!! As good as anything Senna did at Donington: UTTERLY UTTERLY BRILLIANT.
PS Well done to Fischi, PDLR and (yes) DC. |

Yes, Tristan, it was proof that he deserves the Big Money.
It was a brilliant lap by the best driver in tricky conditions. Let's see if he can make a clean start tomorrow. |

DC and TGF on the front row. Who's betting there's a Mega Crash at the start, as TGF does his usual wide sweep in front of the field and a lot of people decide they're not lifting this time ....

I feel sorry for Fisi. Poor chap, to have 2nd on the grid taken away in the last seconds. And the less said about Frentzen today the better...

I hope they DO take each other off... Hand the lead nicely to Fisichella. Hakkinen stuffs it, DLR finishes 2nd and Trulli 3rd. Marvellous.

If DC makes a decent start, TGF will be chopping Fisi and Mika, expect spinning cars, Hakinnen airborne and red flag.
I'm going to be watching between the fingers over my eyes. |

I was watching the updates on the internet and they said one minute to go. RB I think put in a 1:49 and I was going "Oh well shui has to settle for fourth. I was just about to disconnect and suddenly I see shui jump to second. Ive witnessed a lot of qualifying on the net, but that last lap was more exciting to see than any other.

Unfortunately I'm at work, so I've not seen qualifying. But I'm looking forward to seeing the lap. As far the start tomorrow, who's betting DC swipes accross MS - and MS doesn't back down... I hope not, frankly.

First four cars out on Lap 1. Who will MurrayandMartin cheer for then? Oh right, Button qualified about 23rd, didn't he? The day is saved for F1 commentary.

Huge first lapper - all but Gene and Mazzacane suffer some sort of damage, Minardi finish with not only their first win, but their first one-two. The rest of the field trail in at least two laps down on winner Gene (Just to give Mazzacane a chance of staying ahead).

LOL!! Plus which, that first corner at Hokenheim is always fun at the best of times. And it may be a bit wet and slippy (ooo err!!). All points to one big shunt!!!

If it's wet tomorrow, prepare yourself for one BIG shunt at turn 1... Schumi will attempt to block DC, DC will try to do the same to Schumi. It will all go pear-shaped for them. Gene will do an 'Austria' and slip through neatly to score some points, nay a win, for Minardi.
Amen. |

I was following quals on the Atlas chat room, and they posted that MS crossed the line as the chequered flag was being waved. Mika must have been in front of him. That was a sensational lap. Unfortunately, we don't get quals in Oz. I have always said that quals was more exciting than the actual race, and you see some really sensational efforts. Yes!! I agree - this must have been the lap to remember. If we are lucky, we might get to watch it on channel 9 tonight.
