Promoting Females in Racing

This is a good site that promotes and publicizes females in racing.

I race historic single seaters and don't mind being referred to as a 'chick'- better than 'woman racing driver' that has a thoroughly unsexy, 1920s and grown up feel to it!

Do you know of any websites that promote males in racing? I find it sad that just because we race and we are girls we are supposed to be afforded special treatment that marks us out from the rest of the racers we meet. Gender shouldn't come into it. Racing should be about that - racing.

Rob...good question. I have asked Nika, the owner of the site (and enthusiastic race fan) the question.

Jenny...I see nothing wrong in promoting women in motorsports as it is difficult for them to be taken seriously in the auto racing field. Sponsorship for female racers is extremely difficult to obtain. There are so many female drivers that cannot obtain sponsorship and it has absolutely nothing to do with their talent (Sarah Fisher for one). I am in favor of all the help women can get to "level-the-playing-field".

Muggle not...I take your point but it depends on what level you want to compete. If you are racing modern machinery or rare historic stuff, the entry levels for funding are stratospheric. At club level it is very different. BTW, does the website actually help the chicks raise funds and if so, how much to date? I'm all for girls racing but the only way to level the playing field is to finish high in the race. I sometimes wonder if the websites hinder the process because they trade on sexy looking sites and not as much on racing results and team playing ability as much as they could. I want to see more girls racing, across the board of motorsport, but not with cheapening tradeoffs that will hamper our efforts to be taken seriously in the long term. Hey, I want it to be fun too!!

Jenny...The site lists "Bios" of approx 96 female drivers.
It also discusses all forms of racing in addition to great motorsport articles that it provides. Take a thorough look at the site. IT IS GOOD!

Rob & DNQ...The response from Nika, owner of the site. My comment: She truly is trying to help female drivers with a more "level playing field". I urge support of her site and I have NO RELATIONSHIP with her. HER RESPONSE:

Many - is my answer because we know the difference between offensive and humurous.
Now why did I choose a name like racerchicks.com? Because it was catchy, fun and relected me - I am a racerchick and proud. I find if someone has a problem with it - it's mostly THEIR attitudes.....it's like being overly politically correct. Now don't get me wrong - I would never start racerTARTS.com, racerbabes or something that reflects negetively or is offensive but racerCHICKS.com is fun, informative and respectful.....not @n## like that person is.......or maybe just "humor-challenged"

This is my hobby site - it was never meant to be professional organization.....notice no advertising? If this person wants me to change the name - I will BUT it'll cost you the $25,000 I've put into the site so far from my pocket. Instead - why not enjoy what the site is mean't to do........promote female racers, teach and have fun...stop looking for bad, laugh at yourself and the world because it's really a great place to be

Nika
the RacerCHICK

PS - I am curious to the gender of that poster

Interesting. This may be a language thing viz American English/Uk usage. Here in England I feel 'chicks' sounds more offensive than 'babes'
Still this site and the 'Thunder Valley' one are 99percent US & Canadian drivers. This IS the WORLD wide web!
Does it really cost $25,000 to run a website?
I have a webpage which is just a list of current active European Female racers (80+ of them) with links to their own sites that I have found.

Last i heard the U.S. & Canada were part of the World (LOL).
Just kidding...the U.S. & U.K. have the best relationship of any 2 countries in the world.

I have been pursuing sponsorship for our race team (female driver) for quite some time now and have found it extremely difficult.

Jenny-if you mean my webpage mentioned in my previous post just click on the little house under my screenname.Sorry its a bit of a mess, but I don't have $25000 to pay whoever did the professional job on 'racerchicks'
There is a German site also that may be of interest: http://racinggirls.bei.t-online.de/

Please everyone....I have been visiting the Racerchick site for over 11/2 years now and I know for a fact that Nika is sincerely doing everything in her power to advance women in motorsports. She loves auto racing and her only desire is to see women succeed on a level playing field. The money that she has spent has meant great sacrifices on her part to make the site a success in promoting female drivers.

BTW...she has a better knowledge of racing than most fans.
