Webber's In The Same League As Schumi?
This according to Tony Purnell. http://www.planet-f1.com/Home/story_13088.shtml
Although I'm a Schumi fan I agree that Webber has the X factor when it comes to racing. He has the potential to be a future champ given the right drive. What do you think? |

Errr no, not quite... possibly a future champ but to suggest that he'll be a 5x WC at this stage is sheer folly.

Well he is crucifying team mates just as michael does/did.
As an australian i should be stoked that we seem to have a (potentially) bona fide, genuine star on our hands...but honestly i STILL can't quite believe it yet. Maybe it's because he reminds me of DC in so many ways..Handsome (in an odd way),confident,buisnesslike...but FAST-when was DC ever fast, lol |

So did Mika Hakkinen and Fisichella. Yet we wouldn't say they are in the same league as TGF. But I do like Webber and he is fast, no doubt.

While it is still too early in his career to compare him to Schumacher i think he can be a future WDC although i don't know about him winning it 5 times.

Yeah I agree with you, as long as he gets a Ferrari or Williams.

Dont people say that he has the same sort of ability to have a team grow around him, and be the centre of all of it.....like Schumi?
But then again, you could call Raikkonen that. |

It's far too early to tell, but he has a lot of potential, without doubt.

YEah it's too early to say that he is as good as TGF............ put him in a Williams or Ferrari and then we'll see.

I think all the drivers are very close given the right car. As reguards Webber what that guy wants to do is to get himself into one of the top 3 teams. With every respect to Jag he can only drive that car as fast as it will go

Webebr has a lot of specific similarities to Michael, the apparent ability to gel a team around him seems to be one. However, we can't get a real comparison until he's in a top team. And there are a lot of highly talented yougnsters around at the moment. Could be that we're entering a golden era of top drivers.
It's almost amusing that peopel think Jordan and Minardi have no place in F1 - which teams do they think blooded both Schumachers, Barrichello, Irvine, Fisichella, Alonso, Wilson and Webber into F1? Would a big team have taken the risk? |

As much as I hope it turns out to be true, as many have said, waaaaaaaaaaay to early to tell.
While always impressed, I admit to waiting for Mark to fall. All to often we have gotten excited by a driver, only to never see another good performance again. Some drivers just excel up to a certain level, and then thats it. Mark however, to date anyway, has continued to impress. He has shown a fantastic combination of the attributes great champions possess. Only time will tell if he can turn that into WDC trophys. |

Yes Webber could break all of M. Schuee's records, but then so could Alonso, Kimi, Massa, Scott Dixon, Fisi (retiring at 40) Piquet Jnr...

The test for Mark Webber will be when he gets a half decent teammate... he hadnt had one that could challenge him on pace for various reasons.. put MW up against a proven driver like Schumi Lite...

Webber has been a team mate killer.
Since F3000, Webber has so far convincingly beaten: Christian Albers - absolutely killed him Mario Haberfeld - webber scored 39 points to his 5 Alex Yoong - no surprise who won Antonio Pizzonia - obliterated him Justin Wilson - fair to say Webber has outshone JW Some good names in that list. Webber is a great driver for sure, I can't wait to see how he goes up against a real talented driver. Hopefully Wurz or Heidfeld gets the second Jag seat next year, and we can gauge just how great Mark is. It's too early to say if he is as good as Schumacher, but he may well be. |

But in comparison to the Schu? I guess it depends on what your comparing. Talent wise maybe. They both get the best out of their cars & they both thrash their teammate. But statistically after 30 races Michael had 1 win & 15 podiums..... But then Schumi never drove a Minardi |

The question is.....
Is Schumacher worthy of being compared to Webber? Could Michael score a point for Minardi? When you think about it that's harder than winning a WDC! |

Schumi could score a point for Minardi, but only because his boys in da hood, Mr Brawn, Mr Byrne, Mr Todt and co would have to come with him to make the transition come good...

No matter how good Mark seems to be, imo, he severly hampered his chances of success when he extended his contract with Jaguar.
He needs good people around him and the jaguar lot don't seem upto giving him a car good enough to potentially show us what he can do championship wise. |
