F1 Revenues and Future for the Series

The table below appears on Formula1.com in a very interesting article wrapping up the ongoing EC Commission's "antitrust" investigation of F1, FIA and FOM into a package with the proposed manufacturers'(OEM's) racing series. The basic thesis seems to be that F1 teams now get a very small share of the TV take, (See comparisons below.) which has led to the OEM's proposal for a new series, and to their expected comments to the EC Commission during this next phase of the investigation to the effect that the Concorde Agreement should be terminated early, perhaps as early as 2003.

While this article is speculative, this last suggestion would open the door to some very fundamental changes to F1 as we know it today. I am sure that there are others on this Forum who know far more about this than I, and it would be interested to know your reactions to this piece.

"Sport Team revenue share
FIA Formula One
World Championship 47%*

UEFA
Champions League 75%**

FA
Premier League 90%**

NBA
Basketball 100%

NASCAR 25%***

* Share of TV revenues. Teams receive nothing re revenue from circuit promoters
** The rights holder also makes a contribution to other associations and/or grass roots out of its remaining share
*** Share of TV revenues. Tracks take 65%, NASCAR takes 10%."
