What do you do with your photos?

I'm interested to know what you all do with your motorsport photos. Do you take them for personal satisfaction only, as an historical record of a certain type of racing that you may or may not hope to publish in a book or online exhibition, or supply to online/ paper magazines, or sell them professionally through image bureaux, or give them to teams and drivers to sign or hang on their wall, or display them on your own website, or give them to family and friends, or build websites with them, or simply to build experience and skills to be applied to photography in general....??

Or do they hide in a box under your bed?

Last paragraph is about right for me.In fact they are in a draw near my bed! Those taken with the Fuji digital are stored on the PC,but not many as I don't go to many meetings these days-none so far this year.

I mainly take mine for "personal satisfaction", but have sold some, given some to friends, had some autographed by drivers and hung them up. I've got enough of an assorted collection to put online somewhere but just need to get the time and enthusiasm to do so.

For me its the only realistic way I can indulge myself in a sport I love...though I have to admit I am trying to hone any skilss that may be there to try take it a little more seriously for next year. I have a combination of digital images that I share on the web or with whoever might be interested and, as of the last month or so, slides which I have found to be a satisfying medium for later viewing.
I only started late last Summer (which quite honestly is absoultely ludicrous given the times I was at circuits in extremely fortuitous situations when I was younger) but am constantly searching for that perfect shot

I love being at the races. I love the sound and smell and the rush I get watching any kind of well driven racing machinery. I take picures of the races to try and capture that magic on film. Most of my pics are in albums at home. Some I have published on the web as well.

The only pics I take these days are at Le Mans. I rarely get anywhere else these days. I (eventually) put up some of my pics from Le Mans on my website. Then they go into albums. I've got about 40 albums solely devoted to my Le Mans pics.

I still have 3-4000 completely unsorted prints at home in a large box in my study. One day........

All photographs I take end up in photo albums almost immediately. All picture albums dilligently labelled - but not the pictures.

In fact, if anybody is rrrreeeeaaallllyyyy bored one day they are welcome to work through about nearly 3000 pictures and help identify drivers so that I can get them properly labelled.

I put all my pics on my website, although ive still got about 300 to scan.

I do the website so that I and anyone else can see my pics from anywhere in the world.
If i get a pic in a magazine or on a popular website then thats a bonus.

I mainly take pictures for the satisfaction - I suppose once they're taken you can then look at that photo and remember that day well.

I've also got my pictures on several websites including my own [http://public.fotki.com/m-pics - still loads to upload], and have also given some pics to a driver I snapped.

Well, I don't really want to point you to it because it hasn't been updated for 3 years and I'm not too proud of the photos. In fact, it's diarrhoea.

Touringlegend - eh up lad, someone's got a good eye for a shot. What kit are you using? (if it's anything serious, please see my other post in this form about lenses)

Cheers! Well what I'm using is pretty basic to be honest - a Vivitar V3000 (whatever that stands for) coupled up with a Pentax 300mm telephoto lens.

I'm actually considering saving the pennies for something digital, or even something that has an autofocus!! (mine doesn't)

Basic kit - I used to point-and-shoot on full auto mode with an EOS 600 and cheap Sigma 28-200. I then decided I was wasting faaaar too much film and therefore money on what were almost 99% bad shots. So I've been doing nature and landscape since I gave up motorsport and I've really learned about apertures and so forth. I'm still complete ****e but I can explain what reciprocity failure is. Sort of.

I noticed your shots need to be a bit sharper, but then doesn't everyone's? I used to use AI Servo (i.e. continuous autofocus tracking) on the EOS 600 but it wasn't that good. Probably my technique and poor eyesight and the CLUNK of the 600's shutter. Hopefully everything will be brighter and bandier with the 1N.

I just need to dole out oodles of cash for a fast-ish 400 or above. Okay, I don't *need* it but it would be more than a little useful. In fact, yes, I do need it otherwise I'm not going back to the circuits. So there.

Yeh my pics definitely need to be sharper! I don't know whether it's my shakey grip or whether it's just slightly out of focus - some are ok, some aren't.

Also, I reckon my scanner doesn't help either - if anything it makes them softer. As I said I'd really like something with an autofocus - it'd make my life easier.

but you should buy a camera with both, manuell and autofocus...because when fences are in the way you´ll need manuell focus...

i mostly upload my pics on my website, they are in no way professional, but i like taking photos to remember the races

TL : I have boxfuls of such shots. If you look at the brown smeary stain that is www.british-motorsport.co.uk (remembering it hasn't been updated for 3 years and I was **** when I took the pics) you'll see my scanner was the dog's erect thingamibob - that is, it cocked everything well and truly up. Cheap flatbed. Need slide scanner. Need pie. Need Pepsi. Need stomach pump.

F3 : how do? The vast majority of SLRs can be switched between AF and MF. On the lens itself usually.

yeah i know, but there are older cameras/lenses where you cant switch around

Hang on, unless I'm a complete dunce (and the bill may go through Parliament to acknowledge the fact - fingers crossed) but I don't think you can change from AF/MF on the camera body - at least not on any EOS I know. All I do is either shove the focusing ring forward on my Tokinas and/ or flick the switch on the barrel of the lens near the mount.
I reckon we're well off the track (and hitting a tree) *biff*.

I don't really know much about camers mate, but on my lens it has a "slide button" that moves between too letters - at one side it's AF and at the other it's MF..

I usually scan em in ASAP, wap them onto my website so that the various mags and newspapers can pick the ones they like from it. Next thing is to sort them out and try to sell them- if they can't sell them after a meeting or two, they usually go to the big cupboard in the sky. I really like taking picks for personal satisfaction, I think the best bit is opening the envelope at the developers to see if anything has come out right
