2003 Driver line ups!
I know 2002 hasn't started yet but hear me out. During a 'quiet' spell at work myself and a friend reconned on the following changes for 2003.
1. Hakkinen will not return, he couldn't drive when he never saw the sprog, whats he going to be like when he's a whole year with it? 2. JV will leave BAR to take the empty seat at Mclaren alongside Kimi. 3. That seat was left empty by the departure of DC, who replaces the fired Sato at Jordan. 4. Alonso replaces Button at Renault after another rubbish season. 5. Button and Sato, upset at being fired, decide to travel to each race anyway and form a protest outside the paddock gates. Hakkinen will drive for Ferrari. BAR will improve, Jacques stays put. Rubens.... probably he'll do an "Irvine" and goes to Toyota. Macs and Willies - no change (that is if Pablo can keep the car in one piece. Otherwise he'll be back in America and Button comes back)

i don't think Hakkinen will drive for Ferrari...why would Ferrari prepare to send Michael off and then pull in another driver of the same age? They would get somebody younger...and my bet is on one of the following ==> Juan/Nick/Fisi/Massa
I see Mclaren would replace DC if he still fail to deliver this year...perhaps with Nick or even a slim chance of Mika... DC would probably head off to Jordan (replace Fisi) or to Jaguar to replace Irvine (who heads off to retire) JV may find himself in Jaguar, and Alonso may get a seat in Renault.. In short Here's what i foresee as possible: Ferrari = 1)Michael 2)Nick/Massa/Fisi Williams = 1)JPM 2)Jenson Mclaren = 1)Mika/Nick 2)Kimi Renault = 1)Trulli 2)Alonso Jaguar = 1)DC/JV/Ralf/Rubens 2)de la Rosa Jordan = 1)DC/Panis/Fisi 2)Sato BAR = 1)Panis 2)JV/HHF/new driver Toyota = 1)Salo 2)HHF/JV/Ralf/Rubens Arrows = 1)Enrique 2)HHF Sauber = 1)Massa 2)Webber?/New driver Minardi = 1)Alex Yoong 2)Webber/Jos/New driver Prost = would it even survive? I think you will find Mika returns in 2003 and drives for Mclaren - he is this year testing with Wurz to keep upto date.

Heidfeld at Ferrari? I don't think McLaren or Mercedes would let him out of his contract without a fight. They probably have him down as a replacement for DC either in 2003 or 2004.
I think Williams will stay the same, because this year they have what Patrick Head expects to be the best pairing on the grid, and Williams would be foolish to let that go. Button will leave Renault and be replaced by Alonso, which will leave Button with the possible option of Jaguar. |

I think Hakkinen returning is simply wishfull thinking on the part of his fans. He was scheduled to do somewinter testing with the team but has since cancelled it. We have seen the last of Hakkinen (in F1 at least).
There is no way JPM will be at Ferrari in 2003. This is for 2 reasons. Firstly M. Schumacher, secondly what manager in their right mind would let him go, sure is hell not Frank Williams. |

Button is the better prospect. |

Please explain why. JPM performed far better in his first year than Button did, he's quicker, more talented and less intimidated by the big boys. He will also be WDC in 2002 (although going by Frank Williams' logic this means he'll also be sacked at the end of 2002 )

JM is a spoilt brat and doesn't deserve a Williams seat. Button outscored him by 1 point (201 to 200)
Montoya doesn't stand a chance at the 2002 title ans Williams have to be reliable and that seems unlikely. |

The reason Button outscored Montoya is because the 2000 Williams was more reliable than the 2001 Williams so Button finished more races thus scored more points. Montoya was robbed of 2 wins at least, last year, Button never came close in 2000. |

Ferrari
Michael Schumacher & Juan Montoya Mclaren Mercedes Mika Hakkinen & Kimi Raikonnen Williams BMW Ralf Schumacher & Jenson Button Renault Jacques Villeneuve & Janno Trulli Jordan Honda Giancarlo Fisicella & Takuma Sato Toyota Mika Salo & Allan Mcnish Jaguar David Coulthard & Eddie Irvine Sauber Nick Heidfeld & Massa Arrows Bernoldi & Barrichelo Minardi, BAR, Prost - whoever is available, lacks talent, and has sponsorship. I think Button will get the break of his life when Montoya signs for Ferrari because Frank would want someone with experience to partner Ralf - and that would rule out Pizzonia and Gene who can both go quicker than Button in my opinion. So Button will get lucky. And Jacques will finally leave the hell hole known as BAR. As a Canadian, I want to see him win at least a couple of more races before he goes! And Michael & Montoya will be exciting to watch as well. So lets see how it goes! |

As long as everyone is completely full of it and posting such absurd prognostications, I declare that with the exception of my last entry, ...
Hakkinen is NOT returning, (though I wish he would) Sir Frank has found a talented driver who has balls, he's not about to let him go to Ferrari. No one will be wiling to drive alongside TGF and Ralf will be forced out of Williams and could well land at Jaguar who will thankfully see the last of Swerve. BAR will rebuild from the ground up, and do it right this time. However, thaose plans won't include Villeneuve who could honestly be facing his final season in F1. The only way that Jacques could EVER end up at MaCaroon, would be if his pal DC were to stay on. Ron would never tolerate JV's manner, but with DC as the polished "Media Front Man", the Canadian might have a chance. However, sponsors would cringe at the prospect of a Q & A media seession with Kimi and Villeneuve. Ferrari Michael Schumacher & any a few F3 drivers who would be willing to sacrifice their careers for 17 races of Glory. Mclaren Mercedes Heidfeld & Raikonnen Williams BMW Montoya & Button Renault Trulli & Alonso Jordan Honda Fisichella & Sato Toyota Salo & HHF Jaguar Ralf & Villenneuve Sauber Panis & Massa Arrows Bernoldi & ? Minardi Webber & and some unknown BAR Fukuda & Manning Bugatti (Prost) gobs of VW bucks JV & JV |

as tgf won't be going anywhere, the key to any driver moves will be down to jpm.......the driver market won't take shape until he's signed a contract somewhere!!
still, it's fun to speculate in the off season......only 33 days to go!! |

Unfortunately doesn't look likely, but I'm gonna dream anyway. Actually whilst I'm dreaming, I might plonk myself in the driver seat. On to Melbourne 2003! |
