Novel about 1930s/1950s German motor racing scene

Hi,

I trying to track down a novel about the German motor racing scene in either the 1930s or 1950s. I think a professional driver wrote it. This has been recommended to me as it is supposed to evoke the era, but without the author I am struggling. Any one help?

I think that is a biography of Caracciola not a novel.'The Racer' sounds more likely-never read it but the movie version was set in the 50s when it was made.

It could! Not sure how good it is, but some fairly cheap copies on the net. Cheers.
