Seperate Enduro Championship
I read an interesting suggestion in the latest MN in talk converter from a reader who has the idea of a seperate enduro championship to run over the year featuring a race at PI, followed by Sandown and then Bathurst. This way you could safely run the enduro's without damaging your points earned during the normal championship should your teammate screw up .This might also give some of the midfield teams something else to race for and a better chance of at least winning something. If this has been covered before, please accept my apologies.

Not a bad idea at all. I'm sure Marcos Ambrose will love it...
Add Adelaide to that as well. Go Russell, I know you can do it. Good luck!! Sorry about my sweep choices but you know those $2 parts... Last edited by Mattracer; 3 Oct 2003 at 10:03. |

Thats a pretty good idea, so there won't be holding back in enduro's for championship points.....or would they? for the enduro championship points?
Sounds like a good idea to me anyway. |

A championship made up of shorter races at the beginning of the year would be good, then to have about 6 rounds worth of enduro racing at the end.
But couldnt that detract from the importance of the original championship? Either way, im for it. How about having the V8's at the Bathurst 24 hour. And dont say none would make it, if any finished the line in the top 5, that would mean an automatic win of the enduro championship! |

I reckon they would make the distance and many without much of a problem either. The Group A Spa 24 hrs were a different time and the cars here and now are much more reliable.
It would be enlightening to know what 2.11s/12s average laps in Supercars would equate to in terms of laps covered over 24hrs? Last edited by Mattracer; 4 Oct 2003 at 09:44. |

I have a theory that if we let the Hillier boys have a hack at one of the ex-SBR AU's and convert it to a coupe, we pick up one of Mr Holinger's nice sequential shift kits, and crew it with the 4 SBR drivers, the Monaro would be left eating dust....
All that is required is the budget... |

Nice idea but why would sequential necessarily be the way to go?

Would anyone want to watch a bunch of Falcon's and Commodore's drown around for 24 Hours
An Australian Endurance Championship return is a great idea, but under TC just won't happen. |

Marcos Ambrose agree's after his partners off at Sandown he won't want a similar incident costing him at Bathurst.

I'm all for the enduro series, but as long as we have a 1000km race around Bathurst, i don't care what they do for the rest of the year ...

They should all be enduros of varying lengths from 300k to 1000k.
This kind of sedan racing is useless for sprint races unless you relax the biff and barge rules ala Alan Gow's BTCC. |

I'm all for a two driver championship series. I don't care for the one driver series at all.
Back in the 70's we used to have an endurance series which included Bathurst, Surfers, and Sandown. |
