Landscape or Portrait

I was out and about at Croft this weekend and tried to some head and rear on Portrait shots for a change, but I have to say I'm rather pleased with the results.

I like the different perspective that a portrait image gives myself ...trouble is they need to be printed out to get the real benefit I feel
And of course a lot depends on the background

i think the rule of thirds would probably suggest you should have the car at the bottom of the frame, not the middle. certainly in the cases of the rear shots...more tree - less track and grass rob.

somedays I seem to do more portrait shots than landscape. Not so much of cars on the track though. It's quite a good way of getting more of the environment in - and it does make them more suitable for cover shots. Here's one of mine...

Nice.

However I have found its very difficult to get the shot you want in portrait, so I find shooting at fairly low speed corners can over come that.

Did you actully take these in portrait, or are they landscape shots cropped?

Certain shots can work in portrait, at Paddock Hill bend for example, when the track, or other features create a backdrop. Russell bend at snet lend itself well to the lpotrait aspect!

Go thru some of your landscape photos and see if any can benefit from the portrait crop.

They can also be popular if you're submitting to magazine too, as long as you leave enough space for the masthead if you're able to snag a cover...
