Australian Performance Car Championship
2005 Australian Performance Car Championship Info:
Entrants in the category formerly known as GT Performance have an exciting new future, with current plans indicating the Category is well and truly alive. A new company comprising car owners has successfully negotiated with AVESCO to join the V8 Supercar calendar next year, following the assignment of Category Management rights by CAMS. The company’s board, comprising Garry Holt, Beric Lynton, Greg Siddle, Peter Boylan, Gary Young and Trevor Haines, are moving the Category forward by seeking a commitment from competitors based on a maximum of 32 Licences to Compete being issued for the Category. In previous years, the series has seen regular fields in excess of 35 cars. The Australian Performance Car Championship will have a seven-round series with AVESCO plus a minimum 20 minutes per round television coverage on Network Ten’s Trackside program. Revised car eligibility lists for the production-based championship will include the Holden Monaro for the first time, plus Ford Performance Vehicles’ new Falcon F6 Typhoon and any other performance cars suited to the Category criteria are being considered. Garry Holt, owner-driver of the Eastern Creek Karts-sponsored Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8, said fellow competitors urgently needed to make their commitments. “The category is a sensationally competitive and diverse touring car series that has developed a strong national fan base,” Holt said. “With the unprecedented prospect of multi-year deals for the calendar and television, plus the new Licences to Compete, we’re now on the brink of a growth phase with huge potential.” “The competitors are excited about investing in their own future which means making an immediate commitment to race next year. This is also a great opportunity for potential competitors from other categories to consider this series as a real investment opportunity – particularly with the level of television coverage, the premium motor sport events the series will race at, and the relatively low entry cost given the production base nature of the cars.” Manufacturers now have a superb opportunity to showcase their production cars in a professional motor racing championship, given the three year stability and continuity of the television, race package and technical regulations. “We believe this is a great opportunity for new sponsors and control component suppliers to invest in the new series, and share in the marketing and promotional opportunities.” Already 20 of the 32 Licence to Compete have been snapped up, indicating that competitors recognise the potential value of holding such a Licence and with a large pool of race-ready, late-model touring cars located around the country, the Category is confident of full grids for every Round. 2005 Australian Performance Car Championship Race Calendar Round 1: Clipsal 500, SA, March 17 – 20 Round 2: Wakefield Park, NSW, May 13 – 15 * Round 3: Eastern Creek, NSW, May 27 – 29 Round 4: Hidden Valley, NT, July 1 – 3 Round 5: Oran Park, NSW, August 12 – 14 Round 6: Symmons Plains, Tasmania, November 11 – 13 Round 7: To be advised *Denotes V8 Supercar Development Series round For more information about the Australian Performance Car Championship during the course of the year, visit www.performanceracing.net.au Last edited by mabs_nsx; 16 Feb 2005 at 04:18. |

Mitsubishi, BMW, HSV, Subaru, Mazda, FPV and Nissan are among the marques that will be vying for the honour of being crowned the manufacturer of Australia’s best high performance car. no factory VWs? big shame as the production car series lost the toyota and daihatsu factory cars too |
