Does this mean Toyota will improve?
In the appointments section of this weeks Autosport there is a double page ad from Toyota. The job advertised are
Senior areodynamicists Wind tunnel model desigh engineers wind tunnel test engineers Wind tunnel model makers CFD engineers There motto is One Team, One Aim and they obviously look serious about working towards this but do you think they can make it? IMO they will be one of the years best improvers on the grid from first race to last |

I am sure they CAN make it, but whether they WILL make it is another matter.
We really can only wait and see. |

They most likely will improve somewhat over the season - but don't forget that everybody else will too. Also, Toyota will be putting fractionally more effort into proper team building and planning for 2005, because this year is seriously compromised already.

They'd want to improve as the season goes on, they have been the major dissapointments of the year too date.

Those appointments will have more effect on their 2005 performance - if a car has inherent aerodynamic faults (as this one appears to; Mike Gascoyne joined too late for it) they can be hard to fix.

Major change takes 2-3 years as we know. They are in for the medium haul.

It is showing how hard to put up a winning team from junior minds as they have shown very small progress since their debut.
Hiring Gascoyne is one of the best move they have done so far, IMO, because on the engine side, Toyota has all the human resources they need but on the chassis side, they are not at level or close with the top teams and I think they are trying to reinforce their investment on Gascoyne assuring that he will have all the technical minds he needs to produce a fast car. ..Although, they might do better if they go hunting for the fine men out there rather than posting ads.... just a thought on the matter... |

On Speed the Toyota motor is ranked next to the Lord himself but now it seems aero is not the only issue they have.

Mike's aero experience is well known - so it could be 'points' for them soon!

Mike Gascgoyne will get things moving in the right direction.
The jobs in Autosport are more for the "bread and butter" positions - so advertising them is more effective than head hunting. |

Are you sure the ad refers to their F1 programme?
