Round 1 - 1000 Miles of Sebring [RACE THREAD]
It's a new era and I think there should be significantly more eyeballs on Friday's race than recent WEC round - so maybe we give a race thread a crack?
Apologies I'm not as good as some other forumers at setting these up but a few bits of info here: Timetable here (includes IMSA events): https://www.sebringraceway.com/2023-...ring-schedule/ Entry list: https://racer.com/wp-content/uploads...Emtry-List.pdf Official WEC Live timing: https://live.fiawec.com/en/live Spotters Guide: https://spotters.guide/resources/WEC...er_Sebring.pdf FP3 live stream YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-d6iCogXKg Enjoy the race everyone! |

Dillmann says the Vanwall has been trouble-free, but they need to find more pace. Treating this weekend as a test session.

Hard to tell from the pictures but hopefully the damage isn't too bad in the #88 Porsche. Plenty of bodywork scattered. Appears to have had a tag with Westbrook in the Cadillac.

GTE Corvette has been near the top of the sheets today too. Good to see for the new drivers coming to terms with the car.

Jota is between the factory Porches with their Oreca. Perhaps they are less excited to get their new car now?

Close behind them between Ferrari, Caddy, Glick. One Porsche is 4 secs off though?! Is that the one that crashed? |

As expected so far
Toyota has the experience and a fully developed car so makes sense to be ahead Happy for Ferrari and Cadillac, seem to be there or thereabouts so more development and should be good Porsche seems off the pace and the team seem to think is not BOP - wonder what the reasons could be? Peugeot seems disappointing - yes car never tested at Sebring before but with 3 races under their belt you would think they would find some speed and they are still lacking. Wonder if their concept is hard to set up and keep it consistent Glick and Van(copyright infringement)wall seem where you would expect them considering a very difficult track and untested cars Should be a good one on Friday |

What happens in these situations of cars being obviously off the pace? Is Peugeot then just handed a performance break of some kind, or is it now up to them to change the car in some way to find pace?

Apparently BOP is locked till after Le Mans and they will only do Platform adjustments, meaning they will adjust all Hypercars or all LMDHs at once and not individual car
Also Sebring is a very specific track maybe wait till Portimao or Spa to see the actual competitiveness of a car |

Is there a breakdown of sector times and speed trap information for the Sebring event?

Couple of comments about Porsche being slow. They probably are a bit, but I think they were doing long runs yesterday with the slower car on second stint tyres. Pretty sure I heard that in a driver interview.
Tyre management will be critical without pre-heating. Starting from cold, getting them up to temp without lock ups etc and then making them last a couple of stints... |

So the Pug and the Vanwall don’t really have a straightline speed problem, both are topping out near the top or mid table in the case of the Vanwall.

Ferrari set the best time of the WEC meeting so far into the 1m46.7's. Impressive from Fuoco.
