The whacky new start...
The starting method tested at Mid-Ohio: Effective way to prevent false starts or stupidest thing ever thought of? (or something in between)
Personally, I'm not sure that it did produce a proper start, instead it just put the cars out of the view of the flagstand to prevent the starter from waving it off. At least it only took one try, however, but I'd rather see a solution that has the cars starting at the start/finish line. |

What was the new starting method used?
If your referring to the cars starting at the other side of the circuit, they've been doing that for years. |

We missed the start on RDS... It would be great if they could always start the race at around the same time at each race...

Yeah sorry, I hadn't realised that was traditional for Mid-Ohio until I watched the start again on tape and they mentioned that. But they still tried to change it by "leaving it as the responsibility of the pole-sitter and the guy next to him to bring the field up to pace". Now, I know that sounds exactly the same as what it was before, but I think they put it more in their hands this time and decided that if the back markers aren't in position off the start that it's their own fault for falling behind... Not quite as "whacky" as I had originally posted, but still a bit different.

Paraphrasing Calvin Fish at MidOhio...
"This weekend they're trying something different. There's no acceleration point that the drivers need to get to before they step on the gas. The responsibility is on the two front-row cars to bring the field to the green flag." |
