Their car has looked the same for the last 6 seasons now...nothing ever changes! The amount spent, the colour scheme, the old, past-it drivers, the talk that they aim to win races and eventually the championship...will they still be saying this in 100 year's time?

I hope they've improved their engine. The 2006 version was around 25bhp down on Cosworth according to Williams. They lacked a lot of torque as well, compared with Ferrari according to Spyker.

Is it just me or does the wheelbase look really long?

I am, I must admit, slightly underwhelmed at the initial pictures I have looked at. I will have to take a more detailed look later on but first impressions are that it is a Toyota. That entails boredom on a record breaking level. I may look later and find it is quite nicely detailed, but I doubt it.
Toyota are aiming for the first win this year apparently. Well, you would hope so really. I think this car should get them some decent results though, a lot of points and the odd rostrum. But a win? We will have to wait and see. |

All the major improvements seem to be hidden away (engine moved forward, longer gearbox etc).Visually, there doesn't appear to be a drastic change, definitely underwheming. But then I was also underwhelmed by last seasons Ferrari!

Wow, i'm overwhelmed.
Taking a leaf out of Porsches book it would seem. I used to like that paint job, but now its extremely old, and boring. Let's hope the car is as competitive as the team would hope. |

As the livery is the same each year, it must mean the car is the same each year. No wonder they don't get anywhere.

There is usually something to consider with a launch though.
As you say, though, the livery continuity makes it worse. It is all dull, dull, dull. |

What's this about a car launch? It doesn't look any different to last years car, and the year before that, and the year before that.... Maybe it's that problem that is keeping Toyota behind the leaders eh? |

How exciting. Looks just like the old one, and the one before that and, oh yes the one before that.

I don't actually think they have car launches, they just take a cover off of their previous car and go " It's new, honest... look... new paint.. oh wait, thats the same."

The same old car for a new year. Doomed to run with last years models, ie RBII and Honda II teams.
They never seem to change the basic shape unlike Ferrari, Renault, McLaren, Williams etc and its not as if its been sucessful thus far is it? |

not too impressed either, but then again that seems to be Toyota's tag line for the upcoming year, "same engine, same colours, same drivers, and same car"
but on the other hand, is this just the natural effect of Gascoyne's over-lapping design strategy he implemented before his departure? hopefully for them this provides some level of stability (and success), but was the TF106 really something you would want to build on? |

Considering the number of photos of the nose, I'm gonna say there are some changes there. It looks a little more pointy at the pointy end.

Ideally the complex aero management is built up and up over many seasons in the wind tunnel, right? So that's how Toyota have done it, they oviously don't feel that their aero was a complete mess like that of the Williams so it didn't need a complete replacement, just tuning. |

I'm sure that Toyota would say that the monotony of the color scheme speaks to the stability of its primary sponsor, and should be seen as a plus. No-one complained about the similar Marlboro schemes all those years on the McLarens, did they?

Who woulda thought that Toyota would have this little charisma...after their Le Mans effort in the spectacular GTOne and after rallying with the Celica GT4 and even the Corolla had personality, their F1 programme seems to lack any kind of imagination, execpt for coming up with new ways of saying 'We didn't do well last year but this year we will win'
I do wonder who they will sack this year....It can't be an F1 season without Toyota sacking high up personnel |

Toyota said they had the 3rd best car last year...
Quote:
The GT one never won LeMans so they quit. Their Celica got dq'ed for running an illegal turbo, the Carolla was not as competitive as they would have liked so they quit. Their soul has no racing. Its marketing, thats all this sport means to Toyota. This new car does look a lot like the old one. The paint scheme conceals all the changes made to the car. Only the nose and the front suspension look really different. They have also adapted the flip up on the side pods ala Honda. I am not surprised their car is so bland. Race fans feel like racing is in our souls. We can tell the ones in the sport because its in their blood. When we think of Ferrari for example we think of the legends that have made that name great... they were racers. |

Well since the last truly unique looking car launched was the Walrus, I think it is inevitable that we see developments not revolutionalry designs. Paint definatly fits into the could try harder bracket, but at the end of the day an orange Spyker is as much of a dog as a silver/red MF1
