Olympus Rally 1987 Supra History

Hello everyone,

I'm Melody and I own a 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo and I want to turn it in to a replica of this -



I'd like to know more about the car and it's racing history so I can get a better feel for my build, so I was hoping some of you on here may have seen it race, raced it or know some one who has!

I don't plan to be completely exact with it as I like to put my own stamp on anything I do but for the majority of it I will get as close as I can.

My car,
I have owned it for 2 and a half years now and it's my baby. I have completely rebuilt the engine after a head gasket failure 2 months into ownership and it runs and drives like a dream now.

For the vinal stickers, I have bought a model of the above and will be handing it over to a friendly sign shop, who happens to have two supras in his back garden to measure up on. One vinal that I am curious about is the yellow square placed in the red on the door towards the front, it appears to have writing in it but I can't find any pictures of good enough quality to zoom in and see what's on it. Does any one know what this should be?

I won't swear, but I think that might be something specific to that event- I don't think I've seen a similar yellow patch/decal on any of the other pics of TTE's Group A Supras on other events?

(that's always been one of my favourite rally Supra pics- think it's another McKlein image?)

Apart from Olympus, IIRC they were mainly used on the rough/longer distance events like the Safari, Ivory Coast etc where they were better suited than trying to tackle the Lancias on the Monte, Corsica or the RAC

Looking at this YouTube clip from the 1987 Olympus, it's definitely something unique to that rally- similar yellow decals seem to be on all of the cars- an event sponsor maybe?

From this pic of Mehta's Nissan, it seems to be several individual logos or writing on a yellow background. Anyone got a clearer view?

Hi KA, Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if it had done some other rallies so if I can't find out what should be on the yellow square I may just stick Sahara Rally on the side of it instead!

They are some really good pictures you found and I love the You Tube video! It's certainly the most sideways car there!
