Saw the replay on Sports Tonight, definately a green flag there, although it may have been a bit difficult to see.

Yea, and Rick will see the replays and realise that, yes, he did make a mistake. The in-car whinge shows he still has a bit of maturing to do, even if he can steer a car pretty well.

Congratuations Cam!!! I agree, couldn't of happened to a nicer guy, he throughly deserves that race win, and i hope he is really enjoying every single minute of it!!! Rick Kelly needs to learn to think before he speaks, and he needs to grow up a bit, i think he needs glasses, cause if he seriously and truly didn't see that green flag, then he needs to see an eye specialist to get that little pesky problem fixed real quickly. Cam deserves that win, Rick was probally just ****ed at himself for making that mistake, and tried to put the blame onto Cam, to make himself feel less bad about screwing up!!!
Good on Ya Cam!! Nice to see that the nice guys don't always finish last!! |

In all the confusion immediately after the race I witnessed a pretty spirited exchange of views between Rick and Cam, and I can tell you that Rick wasn't making excuses. You don't get that steamed about an excuse.
I doubt he saw a yellow flag, but he sure as hell didn't see a green one. How hard he looked for a flag of any colour is something only he knows for sure. I've only seen one replay of Cam's pass, but it did seem to me as though Rick failed to defend the corner as if he thought a yellow flag was in place. It'll be a learning experience for the young bloke - always race until the finish and assume nothing! |

Fact is, he should have continued as usual regardless of the yellow flag as he was in front anyway, or maybe as has been seen in the past he thought if he took a wider line that CAM may have taken the opportunity to pass him under yellow, so he would have won anyway as Cam would have been done for passing under a yellow.
Why would you take that line through there at anytime, especially after the prior ontrack problems by other drivers????????? Just my opinion though. |

Ditto to what SkaifeysGal said. As a Ford fan I could not be happier with the result. Cam saw the flag (yellow, not moving = sector flag) next flag?????.....green, all the way baby. Go Cam.
The history books will read, finishing first was C McConville, second was sooky teary hissy fit. In my one blue ovaled eye, Cameron gets my congratulations as a very deserving winner. |

also, after reading the replies in the other thread I went back to the tape and viewed this numerous times. Unless there's another flag point that I can't see (is there a flag point half way down the straight between the yellow waved one and the green just before the corner?), Cam was beside/in front of Ric at the waved green (I say possibly in front because of the camera angle). See attached pic (crappy digi pic of TV screen), the flag marsall is the white blob above the green blob (which is not actually the flag) For all you with it taped, go frame-by-frame it.
So, the result will be but I don't believe it's as clear cut as you lot think. |

Well done Cam!
It's about time he had some luck, congrats to him I saw he was closing on Rick just a few turns before the start of the last lap and I was hoping he could make a move sometime, and he did it Rick, well before he even said anything I knew he was going to have a winge...should people just stop listening to him?...actually it's kind of comedic... edit: hgmonaro: They showed another angle later in the program and to me it looked clear cut, from that later shot. I've been watching V8s since 1998 and today's win for McConville without a doubt would have to be the highlight of my veiwing career - well done Cam, hopefully the first of many.
As for Little Ricky Kelly, I urge every V8 Supercar fan to go buy one of those little packs of tissues - y'know the little ones in the cellophane wrapping - and mail it to Rick Kelly c/- Kmart Racing. |

On the last lap,on the last corner the line is never going to be the wide one,had there been no yellow at all Rick would have been defending but got tricked by the new conditions.Unlucky champ, take it on the chin and move on.You are rapidly getting a reputation as a sook and a glass half empty type of soul. You are a far better driver/person than you are being portrayed I am sure.Things could be a lot worse, just ask Cam,or your brother for that matter.
One thing to remember I guess is that he is very young and unfortunatly people forget that and think he is a grown up. Most 19year olds a a bit of a loose cannon but can be a d1ck off camera. |

It was clear cut, a truly great move catching RK snoozing. It was a local yellow, all drivers know to look ahead to see a green, if it's there, make sure you don't pass him until you reach the green flag point.
Well done Cam. |

On my TV, it appeared that Cam didn't pass little Rick until he passed the green flag point. Not sure if he drew alongside or overlapped though.
I was actually pretty happy with the result, Cam is a good driver and a nice guy. I've followed him since i met him while testing his FF at lakeside the week before the ATCC round. I actually got passed by six cars under yellow last weekend, I was the only one who saw it! I know it's on page 1 of the driver's excuse book, but trluy the flags are often quite hard to see. |

Mcconville saw Rick's brake lights come on early and dashed up the inside (as we know).
They have since spoken about this episode (together) and there is no anomisity between the two of them. Last edited by retro; 30 Jul 2004 at 10:03. |
