One Of Those Weekends....
Ever have one of those weekends where you wonder why you wake up at the crack of dawn, load the trailer, and go racing? We had one this weekend.
We didn't practice at home all week becase the track was closed for the 4th of July and we decided to use the time to go to Las Vegas and practice/test for a race there this coming weekend and we have never been to that track before. We got to our home track and of course everything was different than 2 weeks ago. Much hotter, more rubber down, unusual layout etc. Well, we wasted the first practice with a spin on lap two off into the gravel and had to wait the session out to send the rescue vehicle. Practice two was a little better as we at least got some good input but we were horribly slow. Heat 1 more changes in the right direction but not enough, barely keeping up. Heat 2 and we went too far and the kart was way too tight, the only thing that helped us was a few karts got together and DNF'd putting us up the grid a few spots. I think we nailed it for the final as my son said the kart was awesome on the warm up laps (who knows for sure). We started 5th and in the first corner went from P5 to P2 when the P6 starter followed my son into the hole he made but didn't fit, hit the P3 kart and pushed him up over my son's rear wheel as he then proceeded to drive backward through our radiator and ripped the radiator, carb, and airbox clean off the kart. Luckily, nobody was seriously hurt but we'll drop a quick $600-$1000 to get it up and running again for Las Vegas. Ouch! The upside is that I got to see one of the best start moves I have witnessed in a long time. Too bad it didn't stick. Oh well, that's racing and there's always next week. |

I've had them weekends all through 2005 which has left me now missing another 2 weekends all together. It's unfortunate but motor racing, you'll probably find there will eb a season when everything comes together and you'll do really well, then there are others where its just crash after crash, problem after problem

It all gets betta though, you may hav loads of em but at the end of the run, you get better results and you forget about the bad run you've had. 2004 for me was well bad, now i'm going hellish better

I will quit my whining now and thanks for your comments. Last 2 outings have been much better and showing much progress. We still have yet to see the podium but have 2 P4's in a row and gaining big ground on the winner. Within 2 seconds of the lead both races. Can't get much closer with 2 karts between you and the leader. Damn competative field we have here (which is a great thing). I just have to keep in mind that we're rookies at this game ...
