Viso says "bye bye" to P1 and F3
Ernesto Viso signed today in Italy for Durango in Formula 3000. He'll race at Magny-Cours and for the rest of the season. It's bad news for P1 because Adam Carroll is currently struggling with his budget.
For those who read French, these news are on my website : http://www.galaxie-f1.com Last edited by Shunt the Hunt; 22 Jun 2004 at 14:16. |

Good news for Ernesto.
Gain some experience of bigger cars ahead of a possible crack at GP2 next year. He wasn't going to win the F3 title and doing this will gain him more useful experience. He already has a whole F3 season under his belt. |

Best of luck to him, he's got the raw pace he just needs to sort out his erratic racing style.
Thats 18 for Donny then..... |

so Lloyd scrapes together a EuroF3000 half season, while Viso goes to International F3000. At least racing is consistent.

Has the rumour been confirmed that if Viso left P1 the Snetterton squad would fold? In which case, is Adam off back to Menu?

Such a shame for them both, there relationship was obviously really building and there momentum was very obviously just starting.....i fear this will all slow back down again at Menu's....they have not shown last years pace....But Adams a star and im sure he'll give it all....

F3 is too expsensive!! Look how many drivers can not get sponsorship and struggle pay for a whole season. Lloyd, Carroll, Viso and I am sure there are others.

This move is nothing to do with the price of F3 - it's just that the driver thought doing F3000 would be more beneficial.

F3000 will be more beneficial considering the GP2 stepping stone and the circuits F3000 goes too. Better than some of our shabby UK tracks.

Good move by Viso. He's gained the experience he needs from BF3 - he's compared very favourably, in truth, with the far more experienced Adam - now let's see if he can put it to effect in the bigger car. I still struggle with this vision of him straining to see over the steering wheel though!

I'm not really sure that changing series at midseason is a good move, however I wish him the best; I'm particularly happy that he comes to an italian team.

I hope that things work out for Roly (P1). He is a top man. He deserves a good driver with a full budget so that he can put a championship together. If I was Viso I would spend my money buying my way into an F1 test. F3000 is often a dead end, even for the most talented drivers.

Call me ignorant, but what are the relative costs to a driver of competing in British F3 and F3000?

Depends on the team - but F3000 would usually be more expensive, although your sponsors are likely to get more exposure.

marginally more expensive i think, especially considering the testing restrictions and such.
someone did tell ernesto that the races are twice as long didn't they... |

He's not that dumb - getting used to longer races in a more powerful car was part of his reasoning.
