Subaru no longer in ARC
I'm not sure if this is old news or new news, but I've only just heard it today. So for those who may not have heard it (I could be way off and this could be really old, if so i'm sorry!!) here is the news from Prospector (Marketing site):
Sponsorship Car, Van & Truck Manufacturing 2: Subaru 7/11/2005 Subaru Australia has announced it intends to end all sponsorship deals within the sport of rallying on all levels. The decision to exit the sport is to affect the Subaru Rally Team Australia, which will withdraw from competition at the end of 2005. In addition, the Rally of Canberra and Subaru Safari Tasmania are to cease at the end of existing contracts. Various supplier agreements with rally and other Australian Rally Driver events are to also end. According to managing director Nick Senior, Subaru is to explore tarmac opportunities in 2006, in addition to other sponsorship opportunities outside the world of motor sport. (Source: Sport & Sponsorship News) Our Research: Public relations manager David Rowley has informed Prospector that Subaru only exists in the domestic rally sponsorship scene and not the entire motor sports industry. Subaru will continue to look at different forms of motor sports in Australia, however, is unlikely to compete in any 2006 series for motor sports. In addition, Rowley mentioned that Subaru intends to investigate other sponsorship opportunities across all platforms, including sport sponsorship, arts and community. At present, Subaru is in the examination stage, with Rowley stating that announcements are likely to be made at this time next year for new sponsorship deals. I wonder what impact this will have on Subaru on the global scale, surely they won't pull motorsport sponsorship in the WRC (we hope). |
