Newbie to the Orange Crew

Hi,

After years of watching motorsport I've finally decided to take the plunge and go to the other side of the fence (probably something I should of done ages ago!) and I thought I'd just come on and say hi!

As a Dorset lad I'll be going to Thruxton to begin with, already let Becci know I can do testing in Feb and the training session in March. I'm also told Gurston to work with the famous (or infamous) GITS is well worth the trip so I think I'll be going there as well.

From what I've picked up on here the essentials are pies and pasties , flasks, warm and waterproof gear and a folding chair. I gather probans are more of a nice to have at the start, a set of welders overalls or such like will probably suffice? Incidently if any has a set of probans though that have shrunk in the wardrobe I'd be interested-bout 5'10 42-44" chest 36"waist.

Hopefully meet some of you out on the bank soon!

cheers
Dave

welcome to the wonderful world of orange Dave. hope you enjoy it. be warned it does take over your life, you will develop a habit for checking the pressures in bottles everywhere, not buying clothing made of man made fibers and thinking cheese sarnies dipped in pot noodle is good breakfast food (perhaps that is just me lol)

stay safe mate

Beware the pork pie!

Ahemm... Welders overalls should do the job - any colour so long as it doesn't clash with a flag (so no yellow, red, green etc.) Waterproofs are IMO more important though. Welders Gauntlets are also a useful thing - but you can build this up as you go along.

I'm still reeling (retching) from the thought of a cheese sarnie dipped in Pot Noodle.

Oh and by the way its true it will take over your life...

Welcome to the club..

Pretty much only leaves orange or black, then, no coincidence I guess.

Welcome to the madhouse.

I thought you were colour coordinating with your natural complexion

I got a few orange Teeshirts just for "summerwear" on the bank so that I don't have to think about what to wear first thing weekend mornings before the caffeine kick starts my brain.

Welcome Dave,
If you've volunteered for the BTCC meeting at Thruxton, early April, I could bring a set of probans down for you, which no longer fit me.
This is definately due to shrinkage and has nothing to do with beer, chocolate, pork pies, crisps, cakes............

Welcome Dave,

If the testing on 19 Feb is your 1st day it is a great way to start. Make yourself known to Trevor Jackson (Chief Marshal) at sign on and he will look after you.

Feel free to PM me if you would like to know any specifics relating the the test days.

Welcome to the band, if you take up WFM,s offer of probans, ask him can you use his flask as well. Hi Nick, whats all this about no shrinkage.

Testing at Thruxton will be my first day, thought it'd be a cracking way before the season kicks off properly to see what's what and gets a day in before the training day early in March, I've sent my form to Becci, assume instructions will follow in the next fortnight?

Welcome to the asylum! You'll love it & wonder why you didn't start years ago, just like myself. The odd thing I find is at about 3pm on a cold, wet & windy Sunday I find myself asking 'what the hell am I doing here when I could be warm & dry at home?' then on the Monday, at about 3pm, I'm counting down the days to my next event!

And if you have any questions just ask them on here & you'll be flooded with answers in a couple of hours

When you get tired of orange and pork pies Dave, come visit the other side of the big pond. We wear white and boast a very different bankside snack menu, like gorp, red licorice, M and M cookies - much more nutritious!

You normally get a card through the post confirming Test Days. Between a fortnight and a week before the date.

Sign on is normally 0730 in Marshals' Sign on which is situated in the paddock. As we are on post with continuous track action between 0900 and 1700 a packed lunch is normally provided for these test days.

And when you get tired of Orange and White - try New Zealand where they go for Blue (and we got a BBQ for breakfast!).

Not very pretty though and with all the support through BMMC not really that cheap

Perhaps this is a more suitable option?
