LMP2 Manufacturers and Engine Suppliers
Hello all, I was thinking of making a thread to keep track of the LMP2 manufacturers and engine suppliers so we know what options teams will have to race around the world.
Off the top of my head: Chassis Manufacturers: Zytek Lola (not sure about new cars) Oreca Morgan (OAK-Pescarolo) Pilbeam HPD DOME Riley Bailey Lotus SMP Engine Suppliers: Judd Nissan Honda Roush-Yates Mazda (canceled?) Toyota (possibly) Ferrari (possibly, SMP trying) BMW (possibly) |

Judd is based on the BMW unit. BMW are unlikely to do their own version.

Basically, the engine doesn't work yet.
They have been running two cars in the Rolex GTX class and losing regularly despite having some excellent drivers because the engine has what you mioht call "severe reliability issues." Basically they are teething issues---pistons burned at the Rolex 24, fuel pump at Barber, different things all the time ... the cars have run well a couple times and I think each has a win (way too lazy/busy right now, will confirm later) but mostly a long string of DNFs and laps lost to engine issues. |

I see, no wonder they can't put their engine onto a LMP2 car yet...

Don't forget Norma.
Wolf announced last year that they will produce an LMP2. But I'm not sure if that will still happen since there Daytona Prototype announcement. |

Oreca is planning to build a new LMP2 coupe by 2015. They're basically splitting their teams between the Rebellion R-One and the new Oreca LMP2. |

So these are the available LMP2's for 2014 and beyond?
- ADESS-02 - Alpine A450 (rebranded Oreca 03) - Bailey LMP2 - Dome S103 - HPD ARX-03b - Lola B11/40 - Lola B12/80 Coupe - Lotus T128 - Oreca 03 - Oreca (new coupe coming in 2015) - Morgan - Norma M200P - Pilbeam MP100 (coming in 2015) - SMP (no recent news about it) - Tiga - Tokai University Hybrid (no news about a new design or based on an existing design) - Wolf (no recent news about it) - Zytek Z11SN Maybe? - Caterham (no recent news about it, will probably be a rebranded Zytek with few modificiations) - Riley (they have a coupe and open top since 2011, there's no interest in these cars) - Toyota/TMG (no recent news about it) |

Probably the teams are wary of taking a brand-new car from a South African manufacturer. It's a chicken-egg problem, Bailey needs customers to gain a reputation but nobody wants to buy their cars until they get a reputation.

Wolf has built a new version of the GB08, with a v8 Mugen engine with about 500cv.
I was wondering if they are testing something for that rumoured LMP2 or they are just trying to eat a little of Osella's market on the Mountain races... The car was close to the fastest LMP2 in Spa (2'08"238). Anyway the Wolf's weigh is much, much less than a LMP2. |

RLM reported during the Paul Ricard ELMS round that Multimatic had sold 3 or 4 Lolas for next year. Not sure if they will be called Lolas.

Just watched DTM Zandvoort race, during it the commentators said Audi are interested in getting their DTM engine into LMP2.
Are the engine regs the same (or similar enough for easy fix)? DTM engine regs haven't changed in about a decade though right? Not heard this before. Edit - just seen elsewhere it's for LMP1s, the commentator misspoke. Last edited by Hawkwood; 29 Sep 2013 at 13:15. |

I was under impression that all LMP2s should have closed cockpit for 2014 (with improved visibility, as with LMP1s). Isn't that the reason why Kodewa's Lotuses were built that way?

No, that's only for LMP1's. Open cockpit is still allowed in LMP2. The LMP2 Lotus futures a LMP1 cockpit. It was build that way because they were also planning a LMP1 based on the same car.

I've talked to Sergei Zlobin about SMP LMP2 program. Regulation changes affect their plans. So, for 2014 season they, almost 100%, will race Oreca or some other foreign LMP2 to gather some information (hoping for Le Mans too), and depending on the grade of rules changing their own car may be built in 2015, if the new date for new regulations won't be set again.
