Quickest racing on a budget
Apologies if this has been done before, but........what are the quickest cars you could buy and race for a budget of roughly £10k (max) for the car, and £7k (max) for the season?
so far i've researched the following: Radical Clubsport Monoposto Formula 4 i dont particularly want to do hatches or saloons, so ideally some sort of sportscar or single seater. thans in advance |

For this one question - you;ll get 1000 opinions!!
I would buy a Formula Renault (well within your price) and run it in F4 next season. If you can stretch a few more thousand - there are good class A Van Diemen F4 cars around. Running budgets are very similar - but I guess damage costs in a Van Diemen (you can get bits from a host of people) will be lower. Good Luck - hopefully see you out there in F4 next season. |

BTW, a Pre 2000 F Renault is also eligible for Mono so you could mix and match to suit your calendar requirements. Don't dismiss a F Ford Zetec or F Ford 2000 (Pinto) either, both of which are eligible for both F4 and (in this case) Mono 1800. As an alternative you could look at the "Clubmans K-Series" or "Classic Clubmans" series' - front engined Mallocks, Phantoms, Vision's and the like - Slicks and wings and bloody quick. one last question. assuming i want to have a crack at F4 where is the best place to look - i've seen racecarsdirect.com, motorsportads.com and there are a few listed there. but where else should i look? (especially given that the season is now over so i cant go to a race meeting and seewhats for sale)

If you want speed, I wouldn't dismiss the Radical so quickly.
Not too much else for that money has 165bhp, a six-speed sequential box and the possibility to fit a second seat to give rides to any friends and potential sponsors. |

take a look at the classifieds on 750mc website also.
Maybe worth asking the Renault gurus if they know what is around to buy.. Mr Pearson is always a good source of knowledge... |

I think this is loosing its way a bit, the thread starter was seeking the quickest cars obtainable within his budget. Formula Fords in any form including Classic 2 litre don't fit into that description. Has anyone mentioned JEDI's, they are a quick car, but I don't know much about them.
The 8 valve Renaults were just about the quickest thing around when in BARC trim, but I am sure that will change when they have to run at 40mm ride height this year even though a few of the ( previously ) BARC controls are being relaxed. My guess is that the fastest cars available for your money will now be the 2 litre cars at the front of Mono. |

My opinion is for that money your best bet would be a 8v Formula Renault or a FFZetec racing in the 750mc.
The 750 F4 has close racing with a good mix of cars and driver ability. I would go for a Standard Zetec which you could convert to a class A car at a later date. A quick reliable car with its own class. |
