Vasser to takeover for Pat Patrick???
From AutoSport.com..... http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=25278&s=7
Patrick offers Vasser pitlane role 1996 Champ has option of hanging up his helmet but staying in racing Champ Car driver Jimmy Vasser has been offered the chance to take over the Patrick Racing Champ Car squad, according to a story in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine. Team owner Pat Patrick is aiming to retire from the team and has sounded out Vasser to see if he is interested in taking control. Vasser is known to be evaluating his future as a driver after a disappointing season with Stefan Johansson's American Spirit outfit. “I'm looking at everything,” said the 37-year-old former CART champion. “I'm not sure of my future.” Meanwhile the F3000 champion Bjorn Wirdheim impressed the Patrick team last week in his Champ Car test debut. The 23-year-old Swede broke the unofficial lap record at the Arizona Motorsport Park road circuit. “Champ Cars would be a good step career-wise,” said Wirdheim. “It wouldn't be a big difference to racing in F3000, and with Patrick I would be competitive.” Last edited by Dov; 13 Nov 2003 at 20:57. |

With their bedtime prayers, I'll ask my kids to include the blurb, "Please let somebody take up the reigns at Patrick Racing, so the team will remain intact."
Maybe they should include "Visteon" in there somewhere, too. Perhaps Jimmy V could partner with Jim McGee? |

I think Vasser would be good in a key role in a team. The only thing is that after last season, I'd like to see him do another. I said the complete opposite after last season.

Can he do a 'Rahal' and control the team from the cockpit?

OK. I like the idea of Vasser running a team. That, of course, assumes that ASTJ is really dead and I don't like that. Ah, silly season again...

Vasser's common sense approach would be a good asset for any team & i can see why Patrick would want him running his team but the unfortunate part of all this is that Vasser would have to retire from racing.

Not retire just move, but i think vasser can do a rahal, because Patrick racing is an already established team so he won't have the tribulations that Adrian Fernandez is going through.

Now if Vasser ran the "Patrick" team and drove, he kept Servia and Visteon then that would make me feel better about the loss of ASTJ.

Is there any chance of Servia staying with Patrick next year?

I'd like to think so, x_dt.
Something that's been lingering on my mind all day... I hope Jim McGee isn't retiring, too. Otherwise I'd have thought that he'd have taken over the helm. And if Vasser were to assume the team, I would hope that McGee would stay onboard. At least for a couple of years. Jim McGee would also make a great owner. (I'll retract that last sentence if he were the one that suggested (earlier in the season on CART.com) that ChampCars do away with the wings). |
