Tag Heuer Makes Announcement
WWW.indyracing.com has announced that the respected watch-maker, Tag Heuer, will be the official timekeeper/scorer for the IRL. The announcment was made at a press conference in Manhattan this morning, and those in attendance from the IRL included, Tony George, Scott Dixon, and Sarah Fisher. Tag will be producing an Indy 500 watch, which will be available in April of 04.
While its certainly good news to have such a respected company like Tag, involved in your series, I think many of us expected more out of this announcement. No mention was made in regards to sponsorship for Fisher, and certainly the outside hope of series sponsorship, was dashed. I think there still is hope that Fisher may get sponsorship from Tag in the near future though, due to a close working relationship they apparently have. So what do you think? PS - I tried to get into the meeting, but I was told my "credentials", (being a contributing member to the world renouned 10/10ths), wasn't good enough! The nerve, I tell ya! |

Good news indeed I'd rather they were series sponsor, but well well. I wonder how much this watch will cost?

They put up pictures of the watch on the Indy racing site, and it looks like a beauty, and the best part is, its only $895.00 US!
It also says Scott Dixon will be a Tag Heuer ambassador for the series, which will put him in some very good company, like JPM, Raikonnen, and Senna. That does speak highly for the series, to be in the company of the best in F1! Good stuff! |

An article in www.grandprix.com says that Tag/Heuer is getting out of the F1 timekeeping business after 12 years with the series.
It said that Tag took the brunt of the criticism for the 03 Brazilian GP, which was a rain soaked, red flagged debacle, where the winner wasn't decided until a few days had passed. They will continue their relationship with Kimi Raikonen though. A successor hasn't been decided, but they need to find one quickly! They will be concentrating their racing efforts on the IRL, Scott Dixon, and Sarah Fisher. I'd say, thats quite a coup for the IRL. |

Depends how you look at it... Company X makes biggest, most disastrous, most embarrassing mess in history of F1 time-keeping, despite the result being obvious to everyone who saw the race, and then jumps ship to the IRL?
Hey, work with me here... You see: every piece of news can be construed as a negative - you're just not trying hard enough! |

Well, I'm going to attempt to keep this positive Testure, which means I won't have to try so hard. It seems as though Tag/Heuer only provided the series with the time keeping eqipment and a company called Formula One Group actually did the time keeping. So it seems as though the criticism leveled at Tag was unwarranted and F1 will now lose a very prestigious name in time keeping because of it. How's that for a positive spin? Pretty impressive huh? |

Actualy I belive that some one provides the equipment - Tag provides the software and some one else does the actual timing.
Race Time in the Australian forum could probably shed more light on it if you PM him. |
