China round not postponed - It's cancelled

I always thought that postponing meant to be run at a later date. This years round is cancelled, as in never taking place, unless next years round counts to this years championship. Wouldn't it be a pain to have to wait until June next year to find out this years champion, but I wouldn't put it past TC.

Hi All

NZV8's get around the 3.03 km in 1 min 14+.

They very rarely seem to use the long track (only once in two years that I have been timing there - although we don't do all the meetings).

Not sure if they would for V8 supercars or not, but I think they were considering making a 3rd version of the track for the v8's by joining up the next straight after Ken Smith (after the right hander) with Dunlop corner.

I think the NZGP has been there in the past, but for the last few years has been at Teretonga (at Invercargill in the South Island)

Hi All

Since I couldn't edit the previous message again:

Mind you - I notice that Manfeild is booked for the November 12-14 weekend for the Whittakers Classic race meeting, which is a HUGE classic car meeting here, although the next weekend is free, so maybe they could be convinced to move?

I really think the biggest issue is that Manfeild needs a huge upgrade, which was part of the bid to AVESCO for the 2006 round, and I can't see it being done by November - although I would love it to!

Sadly for all bar emerging FFord racers, the New Zealand Grand Prix is not what it once was, now that its a Formula Ford event.

Manfield is a great circuit that was built in the wrong location. The chance of rain is often eminent.

Tracy has, however, offered to run the night shift of Higgins boys to do the track upgrade.

The modification proposed for the proposed V8 Supercar round commencing in 2006 is to come off the hairpin on the long track and link up with the Dunlop sweeper onto the front straight.
It will make for a very interesting circuit!

China is not cancelled - it is postponed until 2005 and the 5 year contract to race there is still binding to my knowledge.
The race venue for this Novemeber could be very interesting indeed.

With respect to the NZ venues - Auckland for a street race and Manfield for a circuit race, expect a dead heat.

From 2006, NZ should have two rounds

It'll only have two rounds if China doesn't go ahead.

As much as i hope it is, i can hardly see it being Symmons after the caning it copped on Superstars.

I reckon give Wanneroo a second round

The Grand Prix when it was a Grand Prix was Pukekohe and then when they tried to run Formula Holden it moved to Manfield then to the South Island for Formula Fords.
Of the 3 tracks when it comes to passing opportunities I would go for the latter, then Pukekohe then Manfield.
Only went down to Manfield once and was bored to tears with the hold ups, boring racing with no passing and lousy weather. The only real race was the Sports sedans with Keiran Wills and co and they came to grief at the sweeper on to the main straight when someone tried to pass and took everyone else out. Rest of race was back to single file racing. Reminds me of Winton. Get a good qual spot and start and your gone. Not what the V8s need.

Hi All

Well, not sure what classes you were watching when you came to Manfeild, but there seem to be plenty of passing opportunities when the NZV8's race there (not sure where you are from so don't know if you have seen any coverage of it)?

Also, yes Manfeild does get some rain (as do most tracks in NZ), but how is that any different to Pukekohe in November ?

Pukekohe originally Tracey now Qld and I was there when Rob Lester was in charge which was pre Formula Holden so many years ago.
They don't normally show the NZ racing over here although they did show almost a whole meeting from Taupo a few years back.
Whats happened to their planned extensions?

Whatever happened to the proposed Townsville track? It was all set to happen at one stage.

Hi All

Taupo has just had all the resource consents etc approved (sometime in the last week or so), and they hope to have the extension to the track completed by spring. Not sure about the rest of the building etc, but it is a good start. Might have to venture up there for the NZV8's next year if they are using the new track

I think they (TCC) have spent millions on beautification of the proposed Townsville circuit area and would hardly rip it up for a V8 race, especially when they have to pay millions of dollars on top of that to AVESCO to hold a race there.

Almost all failed V8 street circuit prospects have been brought down at Council level.

Getting the local Council onside would appear to be the first step. There was one proposal at Cronulla that didn't even speak to the council before lobbying AVESCO. Guess what the council said?
