Fighting fires?

In the thread regarding marshals attire at monaco I said that the majority of britsh marshals had dealt with a fire at some point so I thought it might be interesting to find out how many had, where and when.

Perhaps as many as 20 over the years. Most recently a very small one in the pits at Mallory. Biggest was a transporter fire at Donington.

Stay away from me, I'm up to 12 now, including the famous Eurocar at Mallory.

I've even picked-up the bottles from the nearest post (which they chose not to take with them) taken them to the incident and then put out the fire in front of them!!!

Yes, Three spring to mind but I think it is up to five! not bad in five years of marshalling. It goes like this a Renualt 5 Turbo pit straight Silverstone, Metro Turbo Revett Straight Snetterton (Straight+Tubro=Fire?) and this year a Bristol Cooper and Brooklands / Luffield Silverstone.

I only have 3... they were at 3 meetings on the trot.

The first one I put put I was on one side of the car and the next post up were on the other and the other marshall had the fire extinguisher pin in his teeth, I could'nt put mush of the fire out as I was laughing too much...

Rallycross GP at Brands, huge fre at Druids. Three at the BPR Sportscar meeting at Brands and several more over the years. Not to mention fire training every year!

Not had the pleasure yet but the funniest one I've seen and which caused much comment at the time was a Junior Superstock at Druids, Oulton in July 01 and is now, I believe, part of every Training Film and Oulton film.

I needed one more signature to get my red badge, and the Observer at Mallory said I would need to "Put A Fire Out" before he signed my card.
A Renault 5 duly pulled off at post 5 and after lifting his bonnet we found a "Fire". OK the flame was no bigger than that on a candle but I gave it a quick squirt, and got my signature.
No inferno's yet and if I did, I now get someone else to put them out!

You say ouch I did see what happened behind me as I was beside the driver when it happened, I turned around and thought where has the rest of my team gone. Most had run off to get more extinguisher. As for counting training day fires that is unfair but if you practise enough it does be come second nature!
