Demister
My Fiesta has no heater, and at a couple of wet events this year, windscreen misting has been a problem. Is there a suitable 12V electric demister that someone could recommend, that I could attach to the windscreen for wet events?

Try this: http://www.quillertriumph.co.uk/Quil...endemister.htm
And this: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cac...n+heater&hl=en (code: QCRMISC02) Or, something I've been toying with, a screen demister from a boat: http://www.force4.co.uk/acatalog/Onl...oducts_22.html |

Still searching. Boat solution may be the best. Dont want any stick on elements for the windscreen. Though there is a company that now manufactures windscreens with elements built in. Tad on the expensive side though.

I think a few places now do pukka laminated screens with heating elements built in. One such example at http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/
As you can probably tell, I've been looking into this, as my car suffers terribly from misting, and has no heater/fan. |

came up with a better idea for the SVA, just take the windscreen off.

Mackmot - correct.
And anything else that looks iffy! Graham, put the heater back in!! The extra cooling, and benefits for demisting, outweigh the small amount of weight that you have to add. I still have a heater in my Mod-Prod Nova GSi. Luvverly on chilly days at Snetterton or Cadwell! You don't need the fan, as forward airflow will do the job. The plastic housing, and alloy heater element weight very little if you take to it with a drill where it's not essential. Rob. |

I'll source a 12v heater from a boat methinks, and for those events where I need it, I'll snap it in to place. Theres only been a few occasions this year where I've not been able to see where I'm going, Aintree in June for one. 110mph down the finishing straight and I couldn't see where the finish line was! Fortunately I saw the chequered board out the side window |

Saw a neat idea when watching the touring cars at Knockhill years ago (A place that never sees rain - not!). They had plastic film stuck to the inside of the screen which, just before the cars went out, was ripped off by a mechanic. I believe touring cars and enclosed sports prototypes have some kind of system to blow air on the screens which depends on forward speed.
Try a network server fan - usually 12V, very slim & small (hence low weight) and low power consumption. The trick will be in the ducting. |

Watching the GTs on telly at the weekend (from Oulton) I notice one of the cars had a heater mounted on the dash, that looked like it came from an airplane cockpit.

Dunno how well it would work on a full screen, but I've always found that Rain-X'ing, then wiping it over Rain-X Anti-Fog will keep a helmet visor completely clear for a whole race in the rain in a kart. Doesn't weigh anything either!

Rain X doesn't keep the a full screen clear for long enough - we found that out at Lydden, the outside was clear but the inside was totally fogged up before half distance. Still looking at options......

Hi Graham
We found a suitable solution to this on our sports racer, but I will have to look back and find out the name of the supplier which may take a day or so. The motor is fairly compact and has three speeds, we ran it through a tube connected to a swirvel dash vent that can direct the air where needed. We mounted it on the front firewall inside the trunk so its out the way unlike sticking them on top of the dash where they can get in the line of vision. Send me an email with your email address and I will try and take a couple of pics for you. My email is tonywebb@boltblue.com. Regards Tony |
