Renaults wide V-angle.
Accoridng to Autosport the Renault F1 engine is not as wide as originally beleived,
They sa it is only 106 degrees rather than 111 as originally beleived, would an extra 5 degrees make a big difference, and is a wide V revolutionary. |

the wide V itself is revolutionary. the C.G. drops and the engine fits lower in the chassis. one of the drawbacks is the engine vibrations. yeah 5 degrees makes a big difference for the engine and how sits in the chassis.

Most F1 V10's so far have been 72, 80 or 90 degree V-angle, so even if it's 106 degrees, that's 16 degrees more than most of the others.
But wide angle V engines are nothing new. Ferrari used 120 degree V6 back in the early 1960's 1.5L formula and I *think* they also used 120 degrees in some of their 1980's turbo V6 engines. But I think we already had this topic in the technical forum..... try searching the old topics. Last edited by alfasud; 11 Feb 2003 at 06:26. |
