Silly season grid
BMW Williams (M) - Juan Pablo Montoya & Ralf Schumacher
McLaren Mercedes (M)- Kimi Raikkonen & David Couthard Renualt (M)- Fernando Alonso & Jacques Villeneuve*/Jarno Trulli BAR Honda (B) - Jenson Button & Jacques Villeneuve*/Takumo Sato Jaguar Cosworth (M) - Mark Webber & Whoever pays the most Toyota (M) - Oliver Panis & Cristiano da Matta Jordan Cosworth/Mercedes*** (B) - Marc Gene/Alex Wurz** & Ralph Firman/Zsolt Baumgartner**** Sauber Petronas (B)- Felippa Massa & Nick Heidfeld Minardi Cosworth/Mercedes*** (B)- Jos Vestappen & Zsolt Baumgartner/Whoever pays the most Ferrari - Rubens Barrichello & Michael Schumacher *because Renualt have tried to sign him before. ** Williams are more likely to release Gene than McLaren would to be release Wurz *** If Jordan got Wurz and still where on Bridgestones I could see it being useful. Minardi are also probably saving money with running less days, Kiesa paying for the engines, plus Wilsons payoff. ****Two rookies would be a major problem, budget needs or not |

Wrex - you can lose Villeneuve from the Renault seat!
Hasn't Heidfeld got a Jaguar contract in his pocket already? (that was the rumour at the weekend). That leaves seats available at: BAR: Sato / Villeneuve / Davidson Jordan: $$$ & $$$ (Firman / Baumgartner????) Sauber: Massa (not sure if he's actually signed but it's only a matter of time) Minardi: Verstappen & $$$ Not many seats left, lots of drivers available. I'm not a big fan of Villeneuve but he's got to be the best driver available at the moment surely? BAR would be insane to let him go in favour of Sato. |

Renault would have to have their brains seriously examined to even contemplate taking Villeneuve over Trulli, surely? (I know, it isn;t going to happen, but.....)

BAR - Button / Sato or Villeneuve
Jaguar - Webber / Wilson, Heidfeld or Verstappen Sauber - Fisichella / Heidfeld, Massa or Verstappen Jordan - Heidfeld, Verstappen, Firman and/or Baumgartner Minardi - A guy with rich parents or sponsors (*) (*) I think not Verstappen, his sponsors are not willing to do another year Minardi. Mr Peridon (boss of Trust) said in an interview that he increases his contribution with 50% next season. |

I wouldn't be surprised to see Verstappen move up to Jordan or even Sauber. $$$$$$ talks.
Heidfeld will probably land somewhere but I suspect Jacques' game is up. |

Why would Gene or Wurz want to run around at the back in a Jordan, rather than get well paid to continue working with a top team?
I know drivers naturally want to race, but there's racing and racing and teams with inferior facilities, engineering capablity and budgets would come as a great culture shock after working with BMW Williams (for example). |

If Jordan will get the mercedes engine deal and Heidfeld is stiil under contract by mercedes he will go to Jordan. If not i think he will drive at Jaguar next year.
Jordan maybe Verstappen/Baumgartner/Firman/Wirdheim or maybe Wilson. |
