Salo absent from Friday: What does this mean?
According to Autosprot, Mika Salo only completed 1 installation lap on Friday in the Toyota due to a stomach upset. He is said to be optimistic that he will be able to drive on Friday, but it can't be certain.
This raises a few questions: 1 How would the pressure of being team leader affect McNish, who may be an F1 rookie but is experienced. So far he has struggled- slowest of all 19 runners today. 2 Which of Toyota's test drivers, Ryan Briscoe or Stephane Sarrazin, would take over? Sarrazin has extra experience, including of Silverstone (and a Grand Prix start under similar circumstances back in 1999), and has no F3000 commitment, but Briscoe is among the seemingly 10000 drivers being linked to a full time drive next year, and perhaps the more talented 3 If Brsicoe is doing the F1, would he also do the F3000 race? Or would anyone else be abel to step into his car and drive, bearing in mind that qualifying has now happened? |

Ryan Briscoe is attempted to be in the F3000 race; today he qualified 15th in there so that makes hard probably his chances to substitute Salo if he isn't able to race this weekend at Silverstone.

I mean "be able to drive on SATURDAY", of course, my mistake.

In one way yes, but on the other hand he's been very good in F1 tests - better than other F3000 drivers like Ricardo Sperafico or Giorgio Pantano when they tested F1 cars.
However there is a rule that nobody is allowed to race in both F1 and F3000 at the same race weekend, so it would probably have to be Sarrazin now, if Salo remained unwell and the FIA would allow the late substitution. |

Salo will drive. He's a tough cookie and will put it behind him.
Briscoe has struggled so far in F3000 this year so I wouldn't be putting him in a Toyota F1 car. |
