Joao Barbosa
I've searched the web but haven't really found any useful info about him. So, what has he done before driving the pants off the opposition at Sebring? Does anyone know?

He had "works driver" status at Mosler, hence the connection with Rollcentre, when they started their Mosler project he was brought in because he knows the MT900R, and Mosler couldn't give him a full racing programme. He was scheduled to drive the Mica Mosler in 2003 but that never appeared, and so the Rollcentre opportunity came along at the right time. Looks like the Rollcentre team and he are getting along fine, and he did very well in the Dallara (as did Martin S and Rob B).
We had the chance of talking with him at the 2003 Spa 1000k, and he came across as a down-to-earth and levelheaded person, self-confident but not arrogant. He hinted then that he would probably concentrate on GrandAm racing because this was the series that showed the most promise of growth for the immediate future; now he is in an LMP. These things take the mose remarkable turns sometimes. There is also some info on him on the GA website, for instance this Q&A session: http://www.grand-am.com/news/news63.html Also, see this: http://www.heritagevt.com/motorsports/press/r091903.htm (..."Joe-wow" ) Last edited by cybersdorf; 23 Mar 2004 at 15:15. |

Joao is a heck of a nice guy, I've known him a couple years now. He's a quiet guy, very polite and friendly, and he lets his driving to the talking.
FYI, my wife and I are the ones you see at the track with the Joao Barbosa t-shirts on. |
