Audi R8-Does it ever stop winnig!?
Does it ever stop winning? Is there any talk of the Audi R9 prototype? Now that they cant change their 'box at le mans maybe that will mean dome could get close to them? is it only audi the aco have restricted on the gearbox change issue?

does quick gear change mean wheel mounted paddles to a sequential box? because all aco regs are changing 4 2005 so that all gear changes have to be manual i think. certainly at le mans anyway.

oh my god! very very quick! i take it that doesnt include gearbox or does it? aco state they cant change it but they dont say anything about removing it i dont think? the whole rear end must be able to slide away or be unbolted from the bulk head then?

Last year I lost my rear end in considerably less than 3 minutes, but that's for another thread I guess.
Did any of the Audis have to take advantage of the quick change box? I thought they went pretty well straight through, in which case they didn't really need it. H |

The GT class, only last year switched to sequential boxes so I can't see cars switching back the H-pattern manual boxes. For a start they are much more expensive due to engine damage with missed shifts. |

2000 at Le Mans was the story breaks out with those quick boxes....McNish's car had a 3:50 sec gearbox change in the middle of the night....
In 2000 and 2001 they had to used them everynow and then. But 2002 onward its pretty rarely used for reliability reason, more often they'd hit something and broke the suspension and changing the whole rear end is often faster than swapping individual parts..... Apparently teams that has been practicing can do it in 3:20s.... |

They were talking about quick change gearboxes (in the event of a mechnical problem) rather than the actual paddle shift its self. Last edited by JAG; 23 Mar 2004 at 19:03. |

The rear end refers togearbox and suspension as it is attached to the gearbox . It also involves removing a section of the rear underfloor (difuser) . Ive seen Team Goh practice it at LeMans and it really is amazing !!!

The Audi is a nice car. The difference is in the team and the approach they take to racing. They are true professionals. If you gave Joest any other good car, EX257, Dome, Courage, Panoz, etc. They would still win the lions share of races. It's in the organization and not the car.
