Clermont Ferrand?
I wonder if anyone can help with this picture. We think it is Clermont Ferrand but what car and when?

It's Rouen 1962; the car is a Lotus 24 Climax that was entered by the Brabham Racing Organisation for Jack Brabham.
He qualified 4th but retired on Lap 11 of 54 with broken rear suspension. |

I think it's Pau in 1962. Jack Lewis only drove a BRM thrice, at Monaco, Pau and a non-champ race in England (Aintree?), and Ecurie Galloise only entered races in 1962 as far as I recall. But that would make 26 an Ian Burgess Cooper...let me check Sheldon's corrections when I get home...

OK, Rouen would make more sense, it is a Brabham colour. I guess Jack didn't repaint his van when he sent the BRM back to the works.

Yes, definitely Rouen!
I often wonder what prompted Jack to paint his Lotus that colour. No Brabham-owned or run car either before or after the Lotus 24 was ever that colour. (What a shame the Lewis Cooper isn't visible!) |

This CANNOT be Clermont Ferrand. That type of BRM never ran there.
Plus, Ireland's #36 Lotus, identified earler, is also in the picture. |

I took both pictures in question and I can confirm that they are both at Rouen in 1962, Brabham's Lotus and Ginther's BRM. Interestingly, Brabaham is shown in the printed Programme as driving a Brabahm.

Borrowed? Who from, Steve?
Doug Nye (Theme Lotus) asserts that he bought the car (947). He used it to fill the gap until BT.3 was ready. After all, he ran that Lotus for several months and even won the Danish Grand Prix with it. |

You HAVE to put these in a book. Some of this stuff is pure gold.
Thank you, once more, for sharing. |
