Who will get a seat next year?

6 seats up for grabs - Jordan (1) Jaguar (2) Minardi (2) Toyota (1)

Sato, Massa, Irvine, Webber, PDLR, Yoong, Bernoldi, McNish would all like to stay in F1, and Pizzonia, Davidson, DeMatta & Verstappen would like to join (return).

So, its time to state your opinion for the record (I will save this thread so we can laugh later) and tell us all how good you are at predicting the future.

Who will get a seat and where?

BTW - I've made this poll allow for more than 1 vote, so pick away

Gotta say, i just don't know, i'd like to think that Irvine, Sato, Massa and Webber will all be in F1 next year, but i'm not so sure.

I'd like to see Sato, Massa, da Matta, Pizzonia, Bernoldi, de la Rosa, Irvine and Davidson all get seats.

Sadly thats not possible, with only 6 seats left.

I think:

Irvine to Jordan, Sato to BAR(as testdriver),Webber to Jaguar, Jos to Minardi(Paul said he's talking to 19(!!!) drivers for the other seat: www.pitpass.com ).

It'll be FOUR seats. Minardi don't have a prayer of making it to the grid next season. It looks like Stoddardt and Verstappen are both watching F1 on TV next season.

Irvine and Webber are the only sure bets right now. Hopefully Sato, Da Matta, and Pizzonia get rides. I doubt Massa will and I never really liked him but now that hes gone I feel bad for him, maybe someone will pick him up.

Mindardi is the only hope Verstappen has, no one else wants an old driver well past his used by date. If you haven't heard of Pizzonia then you must not know very much about the current state of Formula One. Coming on here and trashing a driver you've never heard of is stupidity. What Formula One needs more than anything else is fresh new talent and that includes drivers as well as designers, to spice up the competition. Olivier Panis and company may be fast but there are younger drivers that are just as fast who will develop into future champions, Irvine, Panis and Verstappen are not future champions, they are simply making up the numbers and developing retirement plans.

That said I think one more year for Eddie at Jaguar is most likely, he has comtributed a lot in developing the car and one more season is probably left in him with Webber as a Jaguar test driver. Eddie has said many times Jaguar need a better test program with an experienced test driver and Wbber would suit the job perfectly with a possible drive for them in 2004.

Takuma Sato will probably stay at Jordan if what I hear about Honda paying EJ to keep him is true. Come 2004 Villeneuve's departure from BAR will leave a drive for Sato. Eddie Jordan clearly doesn't mind breaking driver's contracts but I think Honda's support for Sato will discourage him this time but he no longer has any obligation to them....

As for the Minardi drives, one will most certainly be a rent-a-driver, if Paul Stoddart is really desperate for money then we could see Yoong in a Minardi again next season regardless of his qualifying performances this year. This is all assuming Minardi is still around next season....

Toyota's driver lineup will most likely be Christiano da Matta alongside Olivier Panis with the Newman/Haas CART teams already testing new drivers for next year.

According to Jos at least one other team wants him.
AND: the contracts with the Malasian sponsors have already been renewed, only 1 difference to this years contract: Yoong does'nt have to race.

Of course Verstappen is going to talk up his chances but other than in a Minardi we won't be seeing him race next year. Yoong's departure will only mean another rent-a-driver for 2003.

So what about all the talk of Jos being confirmed at Toyota back at the Spa (?) weekend? I honestly can't see him being back next year, Jos's name has been linked to nearly every team.

Jos is old and clueless, Pizzonia is not ready yet and Yoong is going to the States(good for him -- he is not THAT a bad driver you all seem to label him, he just isn't F1 material)

I think Pizzonia has a good chance to take the second Jaguar seat.
I don't agree with Cleartone that he's not ready. He's had two (?) seasons as a Williams test driver and he was regulary faster than RS, JPM or Marc Gene.
