The trend has been for the factory to run its own cars, then let customers take over.

For some reason I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche would launch a LMP2 customer-car first, and then start a factory LMP1 assault. This is just speculation, no proper evidence for it, but it's just an idea I have.

That's the same idea we had at Spa last weekend Bramzel.
First build an LMP2, make it a winning car, sell several ones to privateer teams (like Courage does) and then when you're "cashing in" launch an official LMP1 car and race for overall victory at Le Mans. |

This also comes together with the critics Porsche is getting from their true fans that they haven't been involved with a Factory-entry for so long already.

This would seem to push the P1 car's arrival into the future a bit. Since Penske will run the factory P2 team at Petit this year and through 2006 with customer cars becoming available at some point along the way. So a 2007 debut for the P1 car perhaps. That gives Audi one year to run their new car and get it sorted.
Bramzel: Isn't the Penske entry basically a works or factory team anyways? Last edited by jhansen; 22 Apr 2005 at 16:05. |

Basically GruppeM is as well, and so are Freisinger and Alex Job. But they aren't official, and that's the problem afaik From what I've read true fans (/owners) are looking forward to a full factory entry, like the 911 GT1 back in '96 & '97.

According to this weeks Autosport rumours of a LMP1 projekt seem to be wide of the mark.
