90's GT racers - Where are they?
Would be nice to figure out where these cars are. I think eventually they'll become attractive propositions and they'll be appreciated in a series like Group C is, although maybe not to the same extent.
Obviously we know about the locations of F1 GTR's for example but what about all the 911 GT1's or F40 LM's. What about Elise GT1's or Esprit GT1's? There were plenty of 911 GT2's made, wonder where all the racers are? How about the XJ220C's from Le Mans in 1993. Jaguar has one and another is in Japan (recently spotted in that video with the 962 on Youtube). What about the third car? Harriers, Ascari's and all the other unusual/small manufacturer GT cars that cropped up, where are they? Would be nice if people knew where all these cars were, so many different racers in the different GT series back in the day, or if anyone has any stories about running them/seeing them race perhaps? Mods - dunno if this fits here or should be in the historic/chassis archives section but perhaps might get more views and replies here (hopefully)? |

IIRC Ratel made a series for 90's GT1 cars a few years ago, don't know what became of it though.

Plenty of the 993 GT2s found their way into amateur racing series like DMV TCC (ne Divinol-Cup) and were indeed the mainstay of that series until around 2007 or so. Most of them have disappeared though by now due to the GT3 invasion. The Vipers are still going strong, though. Saw one lead a good portion of the race yesterday afternoon at Hockenheimring.

Would it be safe to say all of the Mercedes CLK GTR and CLK LM racecars are still with Mercedes? I've never seen any of these cars in private hands unlike the McLarens, Porsche GT1 and Lotus GT1.

Ironically, Mercedes-Benz did sell off one of their '99 CLR's to a private collector and it's in running condition. To be fair, though, that more like a '99 version of an LMP1 car (LMGTP) than a 1990's GT car.

I ran a Venturi LM600 for a sponsor. A French Lotus we called it. Went well..............................but not for long. It had most of the right bits but was let down by a poor design and poor electrics. Went bang at the 1998 British GP GT support race and we struggled to get bits to repair it. We finally got the engine back together and sold it to a Venturi fan in Belgium.

A team intended to race a Harrier GT1 in Britcar this year, but nothing has been seen of it yet.
A Venturi 400 GTR was last raced in 2011 by Paul Cope and the ProTran Competition, as far as I know. Can't think of much more off the top of my head... |

I know about that car, I've seen pics of it at a Nurburgring trackday. Which surprises me a lot as I'm sure after the fiasco at Le Mans in 99 with the CLR they would've put them in a dark corner of the factory and tried to forget about them. Not sell them to a private owner who just might get airborne again....... I would've guessed they would've sold more of the CLK GTR and CLK LM after the FIA GT campaign ended as they were proven racers that didn't take flight like the CLR did. |

I believe one of the original 1995 Marcos LM600s in period livery did some races in the Dutch Supercar Challenge last year.
A Lotus GT1 was last seen driven by Fabien Giroix in the very first round of Stephane Ratel's GT90s series in 2007, but it expired after a few laps - very true to period form! Interesting publicity shot on this page for the 90s GT Legends at the Silverstone classic - last time I saw the Ascari FGT on track was in 1997! Looks like the former Larbre 911 GT1 (now owned by Mark Sumpter) will be taking part too. |

Seen Euser race the Marcos LM600 in its multi-coloured livery. Glorious machine, one of the first cars I can remember racing. Memories of waking up early on Saturday mornings and seeing that thing race on Channel 4 came flooding back.
Saw a Lister Storm race at Silverstone in 2005, but not in a classic race - it was an actual entry for the FIA GT round. That was also the first European outing for AMR and the DBR9, which won. It really felt like one era coming to a sorry end, but the dawn of another at the same time. |

The 1995 Marcos racing in the Dutch Supercar Challenge is driven by Pierre Etienne Bordet - good to see the old girl running well and apparently occasionally winning its class:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/petertje58/7789991138/ What's more, the car is entered by Graham Nash's NCK Motorsport - the same team that ran the car originally! |

From what I've heard the Byzteks in Canada have a pretty hefty collection of Porsche GT-1 / GT-1 Evo cars and spares. Even created a series to run them in aside from their excursions at the Daytona 24 with the cars.

Goodwood FOS 2014 "Who's driving what" list looks like this:
http://cdn.gwsrv.net/wp-content/uplo...list-FINAL.pdf There's Swede Kenny Bräck driving the McLaren F1 GTR longtail, no idea who owns it or where it is kept regularly. |

Sadly Klaus and his Porsches seem to have dropped off the radar over the last ten-or-so years. |

The Bytzek cars look to be a mishmash of parts from what I can see. They're 96 cars upgraded to Evo parts with the 996 lights but they don't look right.
Similar Gunnar Jeanette had a few in the early 00's and the cars got put back together as GT1's but look a little off. There's a Texaco car out there which is more a Gunnar GT1 than a Porsche GT1, similarly another car with 'Hole in the Wall Gang' sponsorship that's the same. They get advertised as 911 GT1's when they're out and about though. |

Didn't the Gunnar team remove the roof of one and make it into an open top prototype?

So by my reckoning, the chassis is not a real GT1 but a copy using a real GT1 tail from the Champion car that caught on fire. Nice use of the GT3R engine there. Cheaper to run, less to maintain, easier to package with no turbos or intercoolers etc. |

Freisinger recently had 102 which appears to be a Bytzek car for sale. http://www.freisinger-motorsport.de/...DESC&leistung= I wish someone would restore it to it's original bodywork and livery but I suppose with it being upgraded to Evo spec that probably won't happen. They've just sold the Blue Coral 101 car as well, now returned to Marlboro livery and recently spotted at the Porsche festival in Monterey.
