Your Most Memorable Touring Car Moment

Just wondering what everyone's most memorable race, moment, image, story and so on is in Touring Cars.

The end of the 1992 season always sticks in my memory - touring cars at thier best. Unfortunately, most of the dramatic memories are those of accidents.

My most memorable moment would be watching my FIRST EVER touring car race on Live TV at Donington in 1999 when Matt Neal won his first race outright. I had watched some action from 1998 but I can only remember it vaguely....

I'm not sure if it counts as a 'moment', but I like the clip of Frank Sytner barking someone over Mike Smith nicking the point for fastest lap! You can see it on the 1988 review video, and, I think, Murray's Motorsport Spectacular (video).

Can't remember the year but it was at Brands hatch when Andy Rouse took out his team mate (David Leslie?) in the Toyotas on the Grand Prix loop. I bet there were a few cross words in the paddock after that one!

Neal's win was pretty special, as was Tarquini anytime he got near a car. Whether it would be a win, or as Knockhill, a spectacular shunt.

That was '92 - and then the following year at Silverstone (i think), the Toyotas again took each other out of the race.

Shame really Andy as the Carina E's were doing quite well under the scrutiny of Andy Rouse. What a shame he was shown the door by Ford after so many great years preparing their cars!

By the way, which bit of blighty do you live in. As we won't see each other again at the track this year, maybe we can grab a beer one day? I work in London if your that way ever!

Will Hoy was Andy's team mate in 1992 when that classic shunt happened.

Also, in 1993, Will Hoy & Julian Bailey in the Toyota Carina's at Silverstone, when Will's car ended up on it's roof! "The Car upside-down is a Toyota", I recall Murray Walker saying.

Bloody nice chap was Will Hoy, he was alwaya forgiving of others, or he admitted blame.

I agree that the championship finale in
1992 is a classic race, no doubt one of the most incredible I have ever seen.

Maybe for me the most memorable moment was watching Paul Radisich totally dominate at Donington and Silverstone in 1993, or the late Kieth O'Dor winning his only BTCC race at Silverstone in 1993.
As I've yet to actually see a touring car race (I have to rely on my review videos, of which the collection is now complete from 1991-2000! , It might not be fair for me to rate my most memorable moment.

Maybe Jonathon Palmer hitting Netton Lindgren @ Snett in 1991.
I cant think of anything else right now.

Maybe Paul Radisich walking away from Roberto Ravaglia in 1996 after Ravaglia intentionally hit him at Brands on the first lap. It goes to show how fair the guy is.

(it may be a bit biased, coming from me, but whatever! )

Oh yes, I had forgotten the "car on it's roof is a Toyota" comment from Murray. That has to be rated as one of his best 'intentional' comments?

I love the footage in the 1983 ETCC Review of Steve Soper in the Hepolite Glacier Rover Vitesse in the early laps of the 83 Tourist Trophy at Silverstone, his beautifully controlled powerslides through stowe was wonderful to watch.

Andy Rouse also put in a great effort along with the Mitsubishi in the opening laps of the 85 TT at Silverstone. And the 88 TT was good, Rouse and Johnson sticking it up the Eggenberger Sierra's, showing that, even though Reudi wouldn't believe it, people could build better Sierra's than him.

Frank Sytner's battles with any of his teammates are worth a mention, like Smith in 88, Weaver in 89 and Kurt Luby in 1990.

1994-1998 were great, manufacturers sent teams and drivers from around the world to compete in Britain, definatly glory years for touring cars in general.

Where could I buy the old BTCC videos from the 80s? EWA doesn't have them, who makes them and where could I buy them?

92+ are available through Dukevideo, but the early 80's were hardly ever recorded, the late eighties are hard to get, maybe at a car boot-sale would be your only hope

Nigel

Suprised it has yet to be mentioned so i better throw it in, I refer to 98 at Donnington where Mansell in the mondeo came from 19th to lead the race proving everyone wrong.
93 was also pretty special when he did the toca shootout and 60,000 people turned up proberbly just to see him, if only he had not hit the bridge he proberbly would have won!.

How about Steve Soper versus Andy Rouse at Brands Hatch in 1988, or the Donnington 500 in 1990 when Gravett had led and handed over to Stig Blomqvist, only for Stig to spin at the very last corner and hand the win the Rouse/David Sears Ford Sierra RS500.

Some of Murray Walker's comments in the early 90s were so funny, i remember the bit of loose debris on the track being flicked up by one of the cars and then bouncing off of the windscreen of the car behind. Walker said "Nice header!!" I think it was Brands one year.... '94????

In 1998 at Donington we saw the whole of Nige. the ineptness, the brilliance, the comedyness, the hysteria...

I was at the old hairpin in 1993. It was just a matter of time before he went off. More mnsellness!

My nomination, how about anything with the big engined Jags!

Matt Neal's Donington win is definitely No.1 The crowds reaction as he picked off the cars in front was great & especially when he took the lead in front of us, coming out of the Old Hairpin.

The DTM races I saw at Oschersleben this year were also good (now that's what the BTCC should be like)

I agree!
It was the Brands Hatch GP circuit that they used that year.

How Murray got his voice to go that high in certain moments I do not understand!

Snetterton 1996- "OOh, and, and Jo Winkelhock doesn't like Biela, look, he waves his hand at him!"

My most memorble BTCC moment was visiting my first BTCC race (Snetterton 1995. Out of interest is it still possible to buy the 1988 BTCC review video as mentioned above? were any other pre 1991 review videos made?
