Just came to report the same sad news. Ironically as the Le Mans Classic races were running.
The ultimate Le Mans privateer, and an interesting guy, not to mention an amusing TV presenter.... especially on Spitfires The Original Spitfire Surprise Low Pass *bad language warning* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iOoiEbtf2w RIP Alain de Cadenet. |

A true enthusiast was 'de Cad.' Building his own cars to compete at Le Mans and doing a decent job with them showed he wasn't just have a fine racing talent, but a knack for running a team too. I remember the BBC documentary about the 1981 Le Mans was posted on here a while back and he featured on there. Really seemed such a down to earth guy. And yes, he did a lot of great TV work too.
RIP |

Aw man! Just reading this news. Loved Allan's 'Victory by Design' shows on the old Speedvision. Just a classy look at the history of specific cars, their stories, races and the people behind them. And just great cinematography.
God speed, Alain! |

A wonderful man.
My Sister in Law is a nurse. She called me a few years ago to say she had been looking after a racing driver in A + E. He was, to quote, the most wonderful charming funny man they had ever had in. Had all the nurses doting on him, was full of stories and always smiling. She couldn't remember his name, but said it sounded French. I knew immediately who it would be!! |

One of the best shows on TV, might have to search them out this evening then and lift a beverage to him.

Then switched to Lola, and then cars eponymously named, which were a continuation of the Lola to some degree or another. I enjoyed the article by Andrew Marriott, for the additional information on DeCad, but never imagined that one tidbit would be of going to visit his mother, letting himself into house, and finding her in bed with Elvis. Interesting, and varied, life indeed. May he RIP |
