Carrera Cup placed into Liquidation???
Porsche cars Australia have guaranteed the future of the next three rounds of the Carrera Cup after the series organisers Cup Car Pty Ltd. were placed in the hands of the liquidators.
In a release this afternoon (Thursday) Australian Time PCA Managing Director, Michael Winkler, said Porsche will put in place a new management structure for the remainder of 2008 while negotiations continue for the running of Carrera Cup in 2009 and beyond. “We are working with all stakeholders to ensure that Carrera Cup racing continues for the remainder of the season despite the unfortunate situation today with Cup Car.” he said. The news is a further blow to motorsport in Australia follwing the recent withdrawal of Ford's support for several V8 Supercar teams, the probable loss of the Indy Car Race on the Gold Coast and the Opus Prime and Firepower debacles. |

Motorsport financials have been on the decline for a number of years the falling over of series like Procar , Bathurst 24 hour ,Amrs and sponsors like Shell, K-Mart,Castrol, Betta Electrical and others all leaving motorsport the poorer. With declining fields both National and State what is the future for motorsport?V8's gone maybe in next couple of years.

Be the perfect time for Porsche Cars Australia to race against some real cars - How bout joining up with the AusGT Championship and then we'd have a real championship to celebrate.

Considering their lack of support for Aus GT I won't feel any sadness if Carrera Cup folds. |

Maybe this could free up a support race slot on the V8s for a category catering to more than one or two types of cars? (Biante series aside)

The correct title should refer to company "Cupcar P/L" or whatever. The Carrera Cup name can only be used with Porsche Inc approval and reverts to them in this sort of circumstance.Porsche Inc will ensure the continuity of the series itself-most probably without their money being spent!

Maybe one day there will only be ONE motorsport category in this country. Only then, will everything be alright.

Interestingly, all quiet from VESA, who the Winton Powder Room suggest are owed more than $650,000 from Sherrin Motorsport.
The future isn't looking too rosy in the land of the black B doubles. I overheard a discussion about mooted staff cuts in the new year at VESA. One wonders why they need 70 + to administer it ? |

What does $650,000 buy you with VESA? Is that the whole fee, or only part of what is paid to them to run Carrera Cup on the program?
Will this affect the Sherrin Motorsport racing program as well? David Russell is doing a great job in Carreras so it would be a shame to see him out of a drive |

Hit the nail on the head Falcadore. All the more reason to admire those manufacturers who support categories where the product is really put to the test.

Surely this is a positive step for Carrera Cup. But time will tell. The teams were behind the former management team, not the owner

Sherrin Motorsport's creditors list totals $4.5m, Carrera Cup $1.2m and the MINI list $1.4m. How on earth did Sherrin achieve this?

Ian Sherrin obviously doesn't have his father's business prowess!
Daddy gives him some cash to play with to buy Cup Car (for many millions) and he can't even make it last 2 seasons. |

In Aus GT, the only current Porsche that would be elligeble for the catergory, which is supposedly based around FIA GT3 rules, is the 997 GT3 Cup S. This car was released this year and only about 15 were built. None were available to Australia. Anyway, at the moment there is not really a championship to support is there. It seems as though it is a good championship not to get involved in at the moment.
