What causes the Panoz engine to make that wonderful, distinctive snarl?

I think it may be due to it only having 8 cylinders and a large diplacement. So the engines sound like a muscle car from the 1960's.

*Sigh* Yes the Panoz sounds like a manly car all right.

Thanks.

yep its from the big V8 they have and the exhaust sytem they use..very nice indeed allthough I would imagine driving the thing would be a tad to loud for myself as the engine is out the front..3 pairs of earplugs perhaps..still an awesome sound

When I was lying in my tent at Le Mans, and it was 4:00 a.m., it was wonderful to be hear ... knowing they were still running. A wonderful lullaby.

And at Mulsanne/Arnage at night, it was very handy when you're trying to get ready to shoot a photo so you don't get a Cadillac or something instead!

Another factor that probably has a factor in the sound of the Panoz is the fact that it is NOT an overhead-cam configuration. It is a pushrod design like one can still find in only a few sportscars of the day. The Chevy Camero being the only one that comes to mind right off hand.

This pushrod design must play a large role in the sound of the Panoz, as it sounds more like an American muscle car than a high-tech LeMans race car.

The Audi is a lovely car and thrilling to watch when it is handled by experts. But the Panoz is the bad boy with the pack of Lucky Strike Unfiltered rolled into the sleeve of his white t-shirt - the guy your mother and the Nuns were forever cautioning you about.

And it's the sound of that engine that does it all.

Liz, enyoy that wonderful sound while you can. Panoz is currently testing a new 4 litre engine being built by Zytec in England. It is scheduled to debut in Austrailia New Years Eve. Hoping maybe they will have one ready for the Petite in a couple of weeks.

Don't know yet the sound. Belive it's an overhead cam so will certainly sound different. Like an IRL car a assume. We still have the Corvettes to carry the American sound. Keep the faith Liz! Next year will have Panoz in GTS. Maybe they will use this years engine. Or, as they say in NASCAR, "motor" as in "the motor give out", or "my motor blowed up".

Well, even if the works cars have the new 4-litre motor, hopefully there will be some customer Panoz still running the old lump at Le Mans next year.

There better be, anyway, or I may be forced to have words...
