Carb Day

The cars just took the track for their one-hour session.

Miller Lite Pit Stop Competition also takes place today.

Let's hope everyne keeps their cars intact in this session.

Penske usually win the pit stop competition don't they Tim? I think Hornish won it last year, I could be wrong.

I can't remember who won last year, but Rahal won it in 2004, IIRC....

Their crew is a good one

Helio's crew won the Pit Stop Competion over Franchitti's AGR crew.

Note:

Hornish and his crew won it last year.

another $50,000 into the Penske bank account....

Not according to the Indy500.com website, Luke....

Helio climbed the "Inside" fence along the Tower Terrace after winning the competition...

and in the semi-final, his crew recorded the fastest time ever for the competition...just under 7.8 seconds...to beat Rahal...

Unless they screwed up and took pictures of Sam climbing the fence, I don't think you are correct...

BTW....

You are timed head-to-head.....in competition...

You could be the fastest in one session, and lose the next one because of a mistake, a slower glitch, etc...

Pit stop competitions are about being the fastest against the person in your heat and beating everyone that you face head-to-head....

FWIW

I think he meant Hornish's practice speed was the fastest, which it was. Helio had rear wing problems and said they were running too much downforce. Sharp was second quick I believe.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, luke....

A lot of times, guys don't really push it on Carb Day...they just want to make sure the car is comfortable and balanced, and to change anything that might be different than their last time in the car on Sunday.

Scott Sharp hasn't grabbed many headilines this mont, but he was 2nd quick yesterday and says that his car is very comfortable and very good in traffic...
two good combinations for the 500.

Others say that Scheckter's car and situation has been the same...

In a season and a month that has been focused on Penske and Ganassi, the two guys I listed above could be dark horses to get the win....

Sunday will be hot and humid....setups are going to be very different than they have the entire month....

The guys who are comfortable and can handle in traffic are going to move to the front and they will be fast in those kinds of conditions.
